Rather than playing 20 questions with you to determine what you HAVE access to (and why), have you considered googling:

"Windows 10" "password reset"

...or boot off windows 7 or linux media and go through the format & install process....that's the best way to eliminate a w10 password, and w10 with it.

With Win10 there are Local and Microsoft accounts. If Microsoft, you need to reset via the website. If Local then the following is a sure fire way assuming you don't have Bitlocker enabled too.

Grab any Windows PE enviroment, installation media, or even a linux disc.... and boot it.

Once booted, navigate to the C:\ (may be mounted as a different drive) and go into windows\system32

Find osk.exe and rename it to osk.bak
Find cmd.exe and make a copy naming it to be osk.exe.

Reboot into Windows. On the Login screen, you will have an option to turn on acessibility features. Turn on On-screen Keyboard. You should be presented with a command prompt. This is launched as SYSTEM.
Execute the following:

net user Administrator /active:yes

Reboot.

You should now see the user Administrator as a user. Login in with it. Once logged in press Win + R for run. Enter control userpasswords2 . Click the advanced tab. Then under advanced user management click the advanced button. Click users, find the user name, right click it and change password. Reboot and try your new password. Don't forget to clean up your tracks. Sometimes I will leave osk swapped out for cmd as a backdoor for frequent flyers. Once you're finished.... PROFIT!

There are plenty of offline tools to do this too. You could obtain a Hiren's disc and make it bootable off usb. Same for a Gandalf, Falcon4, and a few other custom PE environments.

You can also do it via command line with the above method.

net user <user_name> <new_password>

IF you just want to know the password, look into OphCrack. This is a linux based password cracker. It takes time and may not work depending on the complexity of the password. Well unless you have some monsterous dictonary files and a decent GPU to run this offline.

LMAO too funny. I may be new here but that's merely a limitation of my knowing of this forum. Besides, this question was way in my comfort zone. @Topcat it would be nice if there was a rep based off of a "Thanks" and/or "Rep". If I can answer, I will.

You're allowed to be. Though aren't you like, 40 something? shaven head? thought I saw a picture of you once

there is a difference between being cantankerous and having that cantankerousness getting in the way of helping someone on a forum where people sometimes need help

It's not the fact it was just you, but pretty much all the vets

no, not shaven headed....I've never posted a pic of myself online.

If all the vets are doing it, what's that tell you about w10?

I know it's kind of crappy. But some people have it, and I know some who don't mind it. I woulden't mind it for a pure gaming system.

If you do want to switch from windows to a Linux disto , I would say go with Mint . Its easy to set up and use . I can post more if asked .

Although I enjoy the chatter, and 2nd @desert-rat's notion for Mint, I'd like to point that Windows is now incorporating the linux subsystem into it. With it you can fetch your favorite build and multi-compute from the same environment.

That's what doomed Ubuntu for me, M$ bought it....used Mint since for systems without COA's, no Win7 SLIC, or client request...

BTW, welcome to the site!

Mint is Ubuntu , it works for me . Its running on the lap top I am making this post from now. There are other distros. Most of them are free and will run from a usb drive . If you dont like the distro you have only wasted a bit of time down loading them . You down load it as an iso file , copy it to usb drive as a live boot. It runs from the drive with out being on the hard drive . Only installing if you like it .

p.s. Mint/ubunty are general porpuse , distros like Kali are more for hackers
