    HP L2025 vertical lines

    Hi guys,

I was just given this monitor for free. It kind of works but there are two vertical lines across the screen. My guess is that there's something wrong with the panel. I tried wiggling the cables and the lines stayed put. Everything else appears to be okay. Is there any way of repairing this or is the screen beyond hope? I really like the way it's built, very heavy and sturdy and nice picture quality. It even has S-Video and composite inputs which would come in handy for emulation so I'd be sorry to see it go. Also 4:3 screens bigger than 19" are getting hard to find and this one can do 1600x1200.

    Cheers

Well, I'd just like to figure out what to do with this monitor. Scrap it for parts?

      Re: HP L2025 vertical lines

Just finished inspecting the inverter board and found that both 470uF 25V caps were replaced once in the past. The person who did it just snipped off the old caps and soldered the new caps onto the legs of the old caps. One of the cap legs was basically in the air so I cleaned the holes and properly resoldered both caps.

Unfortunately this didn't fix the lines on the screen. I still suspect that there's a fault in the LCD panel..

I know nothing about fixing vertical lines, but a quick search on Google points to faulty ribbon cables or their connections. I would look at that after you have ruled out everything else: your computer, video cable (connecting monitor to computer), and computer's graphics card.

btw, you should probably upload your images as attachments, instead of inline. It makes your post easier to read and faster to load. But, I find that users cannot edit their posts anymore after some time, so perhaps you are stuck with it.

I'll try to wiggle the cables around a bit and see, if anything changes. I know it's not my computer or the DVI cable I'm using. I did my share of googling as well and usually it's the panel at fault. The lines can be seen even on the OSD menu.

EDIT: It's not the cables, that's for sure. Wiggling the cables does absolutely nothing

            That is bad LCD panel.

So, if I understand this correctly, replacing the TCON board won't do a thing? You're speaking about the panel itself?

That is correct. The T-CON is integrated into the panel so it is not replaceable any way.

OK, thanks! Case closed, as far as I'm concerned. I'll be salvaging the inverter board, power supply and logic board while the rest goes. Need space!
