Which ever power supply you use, make sure to limit the current to about 50mA at first when testing the LED.

I have 5 tv's in the workshop all with busted screens. Couldn't I just take led's from those? Pickup a rework station and backlight tester from shopjimmy. Where could I get the led's themselves in bulk?

I contacted them and they said they do not carry those. I think I have found a set of 2 on ebay though since i posted this. The strips have V580H1-LD6-TRDC3 on them and there is a pair on ebay for $40. Looks like the Toshiba 58L1350U shares the same led as my 58L4300U.

Also just found this. Shopjimmy said they do not carry them and have never carried them. Obviously out of stock but that is them.

you can buy just the leds from places like ali express you need to remove one of the old ones and measure it for size and see what anode and cathode type pads it has

                Re: Toshiba 58L4300U no leds

Ok I am stumped. I got my tester in the mail today. Tested the middle strand of lights and they all lite up. Infact after testing the rest i have no blown led's. I unhooked the wire connector and tried to test middle strand again. now it wont light up at all. If I move to strand 2 in the series I can light that strand up. If I put negative on beginning of second strand and put positive on the beginning of the first strand i can light both strands together. Now i plug back in the wire connector and i attached the positive to the wire and negative to the first post. Nothing lights. I move negative to second strand first post and the second strand will light.

I do not understand your explanation about the problem you have at all.
                  You have 5 LED strings
LB1+ and LB1-, so put red probe of the LED tester on LB1+, Black probe on LB1- then LB1 string should light up.
so on and so on for the other 4.
So if you remove the LED connector from the board and test each string of LED, what do you get? And how about the SMD connector on the LED boards? Are the well soldered?

                    Re: Toshiba 58L4300U no leds

Lol no worries I confused myself on that one. What im trying to say is I touched the probes to the right spots on the strip and the entire strip lite up. So I tested the rest. All led's worked. However the center one is intermitten meaning i test it and it works. i come back and test again and none light up on that strand. Now if I move my test points to the second half the strand it will light up every time.

                      Re: Toshiba 58L4300U no leds

as you say sounds like a intermittent led on that strand maybe sometimes failing under load, so if you are saying it is always on that one strand if so i would replace all the leds on it or buy a replacement strip

I'll have to pull one of the led's when my hot air workstation comes in the mail. I can't see spending $40 for a strip when I can order the led's right from alibaba for $10 per 1000. My hot air station should be in either today or tomorrow.

I do think I will take others advise and bridge the connections where the center connectors are. I really don't want to take this tv back apart again, especially for something as little and stupid as a junk connector.

when you remove a led take a good picture of it and we can check your ordering the correct colour type amps and anode and cathode correct and yes bridging the joints is advisable.

I notice the wire connector is a bit cheesy as well. Should I bypass that connector and solder the wire directly to the beginning of the strip?

personally if this was my set yes as the less chance of possible bad connections the better and too put the lens back on after replacing the led i clean off the old glue and then use super glue gel seems too work well in my opinion.

have you measured the size of the old led? what you also need too do is work out which one on the old led is anode and cathode so you get the correct pad layout

I don't understand what you mean.

If you are referring to which side is positve and which is negative then the small pad is + and the big pad is -. its the only way it will light up with my tester.

The led in post #35 looks like it has two leds in series internal to the pack so may well be 6V leds.

yes i did mean the anode and cathode side also though the physical size of the old led just so it fits under the lens correctly and as dick barton says is this a 3v or 6v led as first link you posted was 3v and second link was 6v
