I am going to start off by saying that I am new to fixing actual components rather than what I am used to and just trying to replace them. Off topic - Does anyone know a good starting place to start learning how electronics actually work? Working on my tv seems to be a good place to start learning about troubleshooting components, but I still will not completely understand why it works.
There are two issues with the tv.
The first one which is the most important. After having the tv on for a few hours it will shut off and when I try to turn it on, it will attempt to start up. The red light will disappear and it will do everything as normal until it tries to actually turn on the screen then it shuts off. After this, none of the touch buttons will work anymore. I have to unplug it for 30-60 minutes and then try again. Usually waiting for an hour before plugging it in will let me use the tv for another few hours.
Where should I start with trying to find the actual issue for this? I feel like this would be a power supply issue, but I haven't taken it apart yet. Once I get a bit of feedback, I will take it apart and visually inspect it to see if anything looks burnt out. Then I will try using a voltage meter, but I am not 100% sure where to use it at.
The second issue is more of an annoyance.
This problem has been going on for a lot longer than the first issue that I mentioned. The tv will randomly change volume, channels, open the menu or turn off. These are all touch buttons that are on the front of the TV. It is more uncommon than common. Maybe, once or twice during an 8 hour span on average. Sometimes more, sometimes none.
Could there be dust or anything inside of the tv that would cause it to think there was a touch input? I have cleaned the touch area really well and the problem persisted, so I don't think it has anything to do with the exterior "buttons."
Any advice helps greatly. Thanks for reading.
