I was driving to work yesterday and noticed a TV next to the curb. I stopped and picked it up. This will be my third TV repair, and I still have a lot to learn. I plugged the TV in and got a solid red indicator light, I pushed the power button and got a green light, I see nothing on the LCD panel, but I hear the Sony boot up sound, then it restarts, 3 times and then shuts off. Im getting six blinks on the red light. I pull the back off and start with the power supply, and here is what I found.
Wall voltage to board: 120vac
Fuese : Good
standby voltage: Not good (4.66 vdc)
Power on voltage: Not Good (4.7 vdc)
Backlight on voltage: Not good (4.7 vdc)
At this point I stopped checking voltages and started looking for visible signs of component damage. Nothing looked to be burned/discolored. No tops of caps bulging.
So..... I need some reassurance in my thinking that the problem is in the power supply. It would be easy to get a new board and be good (assuming my thinking is correct and it is the power supply) Id like to delve deep into it and try a component level repair. I dont know I have the tools needed or the know how.. Where do I start?? there is some for of voltage regulation problem.
on a side note, I did see thru the back, while pushing the power button, the back lights trying to light..
Im unsure if its within the scope of someone like me doing component level work...
