    Toshiba 42HL67

Toshiba 42HL67 has and issue I have not run across and that only the top 25% of the screen shows and the rest is black. I though TCON but If I'm thinking correctly that woul be a left half or right half of screen issue. Not sure where to start on this one so any help is always appreciated.

The T-conn board should be the cheapest of the boards to replace. Try that first.

I am thinking it would not be the TCON because that controls left and right sides vertically right?

My little summary is not exact for all TV's but somewhat effective:
1.The power board controls most/all power distribution.
2.The main board does the processing and signal distribution.
3.The Inverters do the low voltage to high voltage conversion only for backlights
        4. The T-Conn board do more of a analog to digital conversion for the placement of seen pictures on screen.

This isn't exact but its an easy way to look at the LCD TV's

It too could be a tab bond issue. Those are kinda hard to fix and most, that I heard of, have problems after the fix is applied. The direction you are headed for goes like this: buy the T-conn board and swap it out. If that doesn't work.......

I had a chance to buy different sets like this to try to fix them. I had no luck with one before and got burned on it. And... I also had one that I fixed with the T-conn replacement. So... it could go either way.

Just bought a TCON so I will report back once I get it and install. Maybe subscribe to this thread if you want to see if that fixes it.

did you try to flex the screen or apply pressure to where the fault occurs around the edges and see if it changes at all? if it changes when doing that then it is most likely a tab bond issue. i do know that quite a few of the regza's did have problems with panel failure do main to tab bond issues if i remember correctly. i had 1 that had vertical lines. so that might be a t-con problem. did you try to clean and reseat the cable to the t-con and from the t-con to the panel?

Cleaned and reset the 2 cables but a little hard to twist the TV so I will pst back when I get the TCON board.

Well put in a TCON and that did nothing so money wasted and back to square one.

can you post a picture of your T-CON board or a part number, I look up this model tv on shopjimmy, I see on one of the T-CON board listed, there is the famous AS15-F on board, which is known to go bad.

90% sure this is a panel fault, AS15F has nothing to do with it.

Have you tried the frozen air trick or applying pressure to the panels ribbon cables?

Did not pull it down that far yet. Where should I try the frozen air on? The cables also?

Yep screen is toast! top tab on the side. I can push on it and bottom of screen works but still has a white line horizontal through it.

that sucks! thats why i asked you to check the tab bonds before ordering a board cause those sets are known for panel faults. you gonna try and fix the tab bonds or scrap it?

I tried to fix it but still had line through it so I just scraped it out.

I noticed on my 37HL17, those 4 ribbon cables from the T-con go into 2 separate boards at the top of the panal. Both of them were warped. I didn't have any screen issues but I did put a couple of polyurethane shims to keep them level. I have put over 40 hours on the TV non stop since I corrected the RCut/drive issues and its been working like a champ.
