    Radeon RX 7900 Series Launched

The XTX sold out too fast for me to snag one but I managed to order the 7900XT on Newegg. Will be a nice upgrade from my RX 6600! What are others plans this go-around?

Previous gen cards (RX 6900 XT, for example) are a great deal right now so I did or will get one of those.

I'm more of a nvidia brat. Linux and ATI overall don't play as nice with eachother as nvidia does.

Seen 4090's selling like crazy for 2 grand. Wait till after the holidays, the price will drop by 1/3.

Hey, there's a reason Team Green has the marketshare they do. You aren't the only one out there for a preference for NVIDIA. That said, I think this gen NVIDIA really did put up a big middle finger to gamers everywhere with the RTX 4000 series and while the 4090 is a halo product so I understand price per dollar is bad, the 4080 is simply a joke at $1200. Honestly AMD is following right behind them, the 7900XT should be the 7800XT at $799 and the 7900XTX should be the 7900XT at $899, but overall they are less absurd than the 4080. Peronslaly I don't really have a huge preference Red vs Green vs Blue I just want something reasonably sized and reasonably priced that delivers the performance and value that works for me and both last gen and this gen AMD has delivered that and NVIDIA hasn't.

FWIW, there's not a GPU on this planet I'd ever give that kind of money for. I always wait for prices to drop....it's only now that I'm even looking at the 3xxx series....with the collapse of bitcoin, prices are tanking on GPU's and they're plentiful; especially used from old mining rigs that people lost their asses on!!

1080's can be had all day long for a couple hundred now. I'm still running my 24gb M6000....and unless something happens to it, zero plans of replacing it.

Honestly, I would NOT go past 1000 series for nVidia and at best the R9 lineage. Everything else newer just sucks.

          I still have my trusty EX58-UD5 awaiting a 6c/12t Xeon and a R9 280x, currently runs a good ole i7 920 and a Kepler GTX670.
          Main rig:
          Gigabyte B75M-D3H
          Core i5-3470 3.60GHz
          Gigabyte Geforce GTX650 1GB GDDR5
          16GB DDR3-1600
          Samsung SH-224AB DVD-RW
          FSP Bluestorm II 500W (recapped)
          120GB ADATA + 2x Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST31000340NS 1TB

Nvidia plays nice until they stop supporting the binary... ATI's driver is open source. Go figure. Intel (HD) has good support too, FWIW.

Usually I'd agree with you but Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 on my 4K monitor runs like a powerpoint presentation on my RX 6600 8GB and it ran even worse on my previous card, a Tesla M40 12GB.

2 grand for a GPU would buy quite a bit of stick time in a real airplane instead....

Who's spending $2K on a GPU? The Tesla M40 I got used for dirt cheap during the great GPU unavailability and the RX 7900 XT was $900? Where did $2K come from? lol

I just picked up an RTX3070 when they were marked down to $450, and it does everything I need it to, so I should be good for a while. It may change once the prices start to drop (and supplies of last gen cards dry up), but as of now the current generation isn't all that appealing given that the price increases almost match the performance increases (admittedly AMD isn't as bad as NVidia in this realm).

I am still using the Radeon 6770 from Gigabyte. It is capable of COMPLETELY passive cooling, it's HUGE and has fins like a motorcycle. And since I hung a 120mm fan with some 20-gauge wire, the solder won't expand and contract and wear out. It should last a very, VERY long time. If it fails, I have a Radeon 7770 completely passive cooled card in a box somewhere in my basement.

I don't understand why we even need so much power -- I just surf the net, check e-mail and do basic budgeting for my household.

EDIT: Mageia did not have a driver for this card for several years a while back, but Mageia locked up more than one computer at my house the last time I tried it. I can always use Mint or Ubuntu if I need an alternative to elderly Windows 7.

I don't think this gen sucks, it's just badly priced. You need one that says

I'm good for what I have

I have a 3080 I got at the trailing edge of the inflation for like $1200. Works for me

Yeah, the R9 280 does run HOT, I have reflowed several to repair them. In fact I have a reflowed one floating around right now that nobody even wants for like $25 on eBay. It's funny, during the great GPU shortage, I was selling them like hotcakes for $$$ and now they're basically e-waste.
