dell optiplex gx260

i visited the universiry surplus shop again... and on the $10 for parts rack i found a gx260 there. the case was cracked and destroyed... but all it was missing was the HD and RAM. No bad caps on the mainboard, as they were all rubycons or nichicon other than HM/HN. it had a 533fsb 2.8ghz P4 nothwood in it,a zip 250 drive, a cdrw/dvd rom drive, 250w newton PSU, and a XP pro COA.

if you recall, i already had a gx260 with a bad board, so i picked the new one up. yesterday i merged them and a dimension 4550... my new specs:

NOTE- some PSU wattage calc says my PSU is 250w min, 300w Recommended. am i screwed?

No. Those websites give you conservative estimates and factor in all components drawing max current all at the same time. And besides, Newton=Delta=Underrated.

i know delta=newton... i thougt it was more of a "deltas are labeled right, gutless wonders are wrong...."... so i guess my 200w delta pulled from a dell dimesion 2400 are also worth something...

running great... idk what i will do with it... but 10 bux is 10 bux... totally worth it.

Deltas tend to give a bit more than they are labeled before they shut off gracefully (instead of going out with a bang or taking some components with them). They are underrated by a bit but not by a ton so don't get too crazy either. Just know that if you're running them close to the limit they will do just fine.

We used to run slimline GX260s with 2 X HD, DVD-RW and dual video cards (1 AGP, on PCI) on the 180 W slimline power supplies. Never had any power issues. You'll be fine with 250 W.
