    8254 Timer Bug Ubuntu Linux

Any install of Ubuntu or other Linux Distro on a Dual CPU Intel board, or a P4 HT board always gets the 8254 Timer message not connected to APIC.

Linux does a "workaround" for this, but the performance of this workaround is not that great. I've seen suggestions that you interrupt the regualar boot with PF4 and insert "NOAPIC" or some variation like NOLAPIC.

For the P4 HT boards you are supposed to disable HT

Has anyone experienced and successfully solved these problems?

Since Linux is heavily used on servers, I'd be surprised if there wasn't a fix for this.

People with this problem tend to get really irate and accuse Microsoft of having some evil influence on the bios used.

    Any helpful hints?

Requests to Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux Ubuntu x86_64
    by tsavpyn
    Dear all,
I forgot my BIOS password of my Surface Pro 3, I searched for solutions for a long time and knew that by using FPT to dump my bios to bin file and using decryptor, I can get my BIOS password.
Now I have a problem that I am unable to dump my BIOS into bin file.

My Surface Pro 3 currently runs on Ubuntu 22.04, with Secure Boot enabled and Boot From SSD Only.

I searched for FPT but there is no Linux version and none of them work.
I hereby request a copy of Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux x64.
I would really appreciate it if anyone...

Evaluating Mechanical Hard Drives SMART Data in Linux (Ubuntu) Using the Disks Utility.
    by abajor
I've gotten into the habit of Looking at peoples Mechanical Hard drives with a Ubuntu thumb drive to boot their system.
I understand the raw values are not really uniform between manufacturers, but I have noticed that high seek and read error raw values at the very least correlate to a drive that is going to have sub par access time, and extremely slow OS booting.
The odd thing is I've often seen very high seek and read error rates on drives with fairly low on time.

Does anybody have any other takes on evaluating smart data? I've used Crystal Disk Info, It seems to present...

WD Sentinel DS5100 (NAS) boot issues
    by DeanWy
    Hi all,

I have a Western Digital Sentinel DS5100 NAS system which has stopped working. It has dual BIOS. I bought the system second hand with an already broken primary BIOS (it rebooted multiple times until second BIOS was used).

It worked until recently. The system was idle in Windows Server 2012 and a BSOD occurred, I think it was 'critical process died'. Thereafter it didn't boot, it just sat there with no video output and fan speed at 100% (there's a proprietary Windows driver by WD which controls the fan, outside of that it always runs at 100%).

    There...

    ACPI fix!

Yes, you read that right, the bug that HP/Compaq never fixed is finally no more, 16 years later. You probably don't care but here it is anyway.

    Bug

Basically the bug is as follow: you want to use Linux on this machine, but it doesn't power off when you shut it down, you cannot put it to sleep, nouveau driver for NVidia GPUs doesn't load, etc…
At boot, you may be greeted by the following message:
    Code:
[ 0.000000] ACPI Error: A valid RSDP was
