    Video affected by Hardrive?

Here's my problem. I recently recapped two very similar motherboards, Asus CUR-DLS, one v1.03 & one v1.05.

Both are working great, both have working onboard SCSI. When I play streaming video, one machine has washed-out colours, while the other has normal colour.

The machine with the washed out colour has the SCSI drive mounted fairly high in the case, directly opposite the PCI video card. Swapping out video cards has no effect, the colour is basically monochrome.

The other machine has the SCSI drive mounted low in the case, and the colour is fine..

Is there any possibility that the SCSI drive or it's voice coil could be interfering with the video card?

The tested cards work fine in other boxes on the same content. Or could it be my Ethernet card? Any ideas?

Are you using video card or the onboard video?

I'd check to see if you have any sort of colour controls set wrong in the video drivers or some kind of gamma control set wrong. Some Adobe products include gamma controls.

Also check to make sure you are using the same ICC profile for your monitor on both machines.

If it is anything hardware I would suspect the power supply first.

No, its video driver or codec related. Damaged video files have artifacts and drop outs.

Yes, it was codec-related. The machine that has colour has the Medibuntu repository installed. Went to Medibuntu - installed the repository on the "monotone" machine and voila! Living Colour!

Of course, not before I swapped out all the hardware to no avail!

I am using a PCI 64MB video card - the 4MB ATI Rage will not play streaming video on this machine.

sounds like your hardware is not up to spec. sorry, a nicer video card is needed... maybe a pci-x one if you could find one.

thats why i no longer push old server boards w/o agp. before it died, i loved my old ami dual slot-1 board (forgot its model, it ran twin pIII cu 733's). it had agp, thank god.

now, i no longer run twin cpu stuff as i do not have a need for it. that said, they still are cool.

Its good enough. Maybe not for 1080P but DVD size for sure.
