    Dmx/rdm

Anyone with firsthand experience with DMX/RDM?

I guess I'm a dummy....I've never heard of either. What is this?

DMX (Digital MultipleX) is typically used for controlling lighting systems (theatrical, architectural, etc.). It's a protocol layered on an EIA485 network that allows a "controller" to talk to the various lighting elements. So, when you're lighting up a building, it provides a standardized way of "talking" to the various "lights" and controlling the "visual effects". For example:

      I.e., "light #24 display bluish-green at intensity 18; light #25 display greenish-yellow at intensity 74; light..."

RDM (Remote Device Management) is a protocol enhancement that lets you collect status and configuration information from the devices.

I'm looking for practical tips to avoid making careless errors that might "cost me" (the lighting fixtures are expensive)

FWIW, attached is one such fixture in "test" mode (all LEDs lit, but at very low intensity). Unfortunately, camera gets confused when you shine a light in its face! Diddle-stick as a reference for scale (it's a bit over 12" long).

Lithonia Lighting versus Light of America Compact Fluorescent product quality
          by sam_sam_sam
I have a Lithonia Lighting 65-Watt Gray Hardwired Compact Fluorescent

I also have back when Light of America had these light bulbs available for yard lights

The issue with Light of America was the blast boards had all most certain board failure while bulbs hardly ever fail

While the Lithonia lighting fixture has all most certain bulb failure

So I have modified the Lithonia lighting fixture to accept the Light of America light bulb and see how long this will last

I have only had this light fixture for not more than a year if it...

Aiwa Z-R700 Music System has very low power when switched on, dim lighting and nothing works
          by pecman
I was given an Aiwa Z-R700 from the 1990s era to look at by someone who said the twin tape deck did not work. The whole unit unit powered up ok but there was nothing from the tape deck. I had a look and found all the belts broken, I replaced the belts and then put the tape deck back into place and it still does not work. Also when I now power up the unit all the lighting on the front is very dim and the cd player and the tuner as well as the tape deck do not work. I have checked all the connections and ribbon cables again, there are no burnt or swollen capacitors. Maybe there are capacitors on...

          LED lighting batten drivers
          by onextwo
          Hi,

In my workshop I have 12 LED lighting battens and the some of the drivers have failed.

In side there is 2 aluminium PCB with a 72 LED on each PCB as ‘current' Schematic.

I am looking the get some constant current led driver to replace them.
is it there any problem wiring as ‘option 1' Schematic or is it best as ‘option 2' Schematic.

With option 2 I would have to modify the all PCBs, so a lot more work.

Dell AC adapter - 1 wire protocol. How to initiate to check if adapter works.
          by Bogdan Kolybaba
Hi all. Trying to troubleshoot issues with the Dell Laptop power supply (a lot of info here). Now I am waiting for a DC power Jack, as there is a loose contact. Want to check if the ID line of the adapter works - I have given abt 3.2 V to this line through the voltage divider, but can't see any signal on the oscilloscope. Same with the 100500% working AC adapter as well. How to initiate 1-Wire protocol transmission? As I understand, the circuit in the AC adapter should send a package for a while as soon as the supply comes to the SPID line. How to initiate this transmission correctly without...

BK Precision model 1472C Oscilloscope Intensity problem ??
          by guizmo1967
          Hello,

I have an old BK Precision model 1472C that is working but not the intensity ?

          At connector P309:
          Pin 1 +5V
          Pin 2 when I turn VR2, goes from +.648 to +5.07V
          Pin 3 GND

          R356
          Pin 1 when I turn VR2, goes from +.648 to +5.07V
Pin 2 no matter how I turn VR2, voltage stays at +5.7V

All the resistors around are good, except maybe R355 that reads 37K instead of 48K.

I also would like to know what TC302 (capacitor trimmer) is used for, because when I turn it, nothing happened ???
