I put my Vista Home Premium on this Dell P4 2.4 Ghz with one gig of ram yesterday. Since I did it as an upgrade to Xp Home it picked up all my Xp settings and I could accually use vista for a change. I was having fun uninstalling the progies that vista didn't like and getting things to replace them with. Now here is the point where I went STUPID! I run a sound blaster live PCI card because the output jack on the rear of my mobo for the onboard is messed up. Vista doesn't like this card so I pulled it out. I'm thinking ok now on a cold boot it will pick up the onboard chip and load some drivers. No such luck! I worked on it all afternoon trying to get some sound happening. Nothing worked. I even joined a Vista driver site and downloaded the vista drivers for my audio chip set. They wouldn't install because the system was not seeing the chip at all so I gave up. Since my Vista was and upgrade with Xp still on the hard drive I figured that I'd just roll it back to Xp and uninstall the vista....I just couldn't figure out exactly how to do it! Got pissed and deleted the partition and started a clean install of Hp Home. Guess what? Xp didn't pick up the onboard chip ether....It was late and I was tired so I said the hell with it. This morning I awoke with the answer to the sound problem. I booted to the BIOS screen and there it was. I had the the onboard chip turned off all along! Turned it on and booted to Xp and it picked the chip right up with no problems. Turned it off and Installed the SB Live card again and Xp loaded the drivers up for it and everything is good. It must be the Meds I'm on now. As a rule I'm not stupid but I'm starting to wonder........and the dose goes up to 1000mg Sunday! Look out world!
