I got 5 HDDs for free a while ago but i thought i'd post them anyways.
Drives are...
Seagate ST3300831SCE 300GB
Seagate ST3500312CS 500GB (made June 2012)
Western Digital WD800BB 80GB
Maxtor D540X-4K 40GB
Maxtor E-H011-02-3056 40GB (made February 2003)

I'm not sure if any of these work because the only PC i have that can test most of these drives needs both a PSU and motherboard recap. But maybe someone can tell me how good they are or if they suck at all.

(These were all salvaged out of old DVRs)

Chunk the Maxtors, check the Seagates, and chances are that the WD drive is fine.

965 ee is two cores WITH hyperthreading.

So, basically like a ancient prehistoric Netburst version of Core i3 3225.

no the i3 is much more efficient, even an i3 clarkdale beats the piss out of it without the insane heat and power consumption.

you can buy a delidder on ebay for a few bucks, but be careful with the heatsink so it dosen't crush it

alternately, you can buy a copper lid to replace the aluminum one

Chunk the Maxtors, check the Seagates, and chances are that the WD drive is fine.

WHen Maxtor merged with Quantum, they became pretty decent drives. Maxtor got its bad rap back in the P-classic days, their latter stuff was ok.

I never confirmed any Maxtor as bad as those "slimeline" Maxtors!

I think what happened is as follows:

In 1995, Quantum found a bunch of old MFM platters sitting in a warehouse somewhere and decided to put them to use. Thet did so by recoating the platters with a new magnetic coating compatible with their drives. They produced a new model of drive using these platters, and called it the Bigfoot series, because these drives were using old, large platters from the late 1980s/early 1990s, thus, had to be 5.25" to accommadate the larger platters.
Soon after, the new coating started flaking off, causing drive failure. The new coating flaked off because the platter surface was never sanded clean of the old MFM coating. As a result, Quantum's reputation went through the floor.

In late 2000, Quantum sold it's HDD manufacturing division to Maxtor. Maxtor decided to rename the Bigfoot series of drives to the DiamondMax series. They actually began cutting the old MFM platters down to size to fit the smaller 3.5" drives. They were still recoating the old MFM platters. As a result, Maxtor drives began failing like crazy. Not to mention the fact that the manufacturing facilities Maxtor was using weren't the best. As Maxtor's reputation began to dwindle, Maxtor decided to sell out to Seagate in 2006.

In 2006, Seagate acquired Maxtor. Seagate shut down some of their factories, and continued to use the cut down MFM platters that were recoated. Of course, the coating failed, and Seagate's reputation went through the floor. They eventually used up the old MFM platters, and their reputation recovered. Seagate continued to shut down factories producing high quality drives, and as a result, Seagate's drive quality went down. Then the Thailand flood occured in 2011, temporarily disabling that factory, which was their highest quality drive producer. Eventually, the factory was reopened, but Seagate's drive quality has never quite recovered.

The Maxtor standard 3.5-inchers were immune, especially the 5K 80 GB I got in 2002 (also made in 2002) and the 2005 6Y060P0 (60 GB 7K) that I got on June 2, 2005, were immune!

And the Seagate-trashgate scandal, was with the Barracuda 7200.11, which was well before the Thailand flooding!

PCCHIPS M848A Rev2.1 board - working, have flashed DFI 748-AL BIOS on it though

Delux ATX-500W P4 - unironically a nice unit made by Delux. I'll put up some pictures in the PSU build quality later these days as I'm currently waiting on a super nice retro package - two SS7 motherboards, a Acorp 5VIA77 and a LuckyTech/SYE P5MVP3.

I have both PCCHIPS M848A V2.1 and V5.0. I have been looking for a new BIOS update for the 2.1 version with no success as yet. Do you have a copy?

Don't have any. I actually gave up searching a updated BIOS and instead flashed the DFI 748-AL BIOS on it. The only problem it has (although it seems to be ignored by the board) is the thermal readings are bogus in the BIOS. Otherwise it boots fine and works fine.

Yet another Z800 (single xeon, 48GB, 2x1TB, Quadro FX4800) but missing two (of 4) drive sleds. I think that's the fourth (or fifth?) one of these I've rescued in the past several months...

And, a Surface 2 (?) that "has some issues" (so I'll probably just pull the keyboard off and recycle the tablet)

'Tis the season for UPSs. By my count, 16 hiding on the first pallet (under the monitors). And, guesstimate another 32 on the pallet behind (I forgot what else was under the shrink-wrap).

But, they're little dinky ~500VA units -- no dount for individual workstations in an office environment. So, pass them through to the scrapper... (fair bit of reclaimable lead in all those batteries!)

I could use a few of them....4~6 of them would be lovely for some security system stuff around here.
