    Fastest gx240 processor?

What is the fastest processor I could put in this dell? It currently has a 1.6ghz socket 478 Willamette and the latest bios update.

I think it will support up to the fastest 400fsb p4 that there is?

I wouldn't bother.. The fastest 400FSB P4 is a 2.8 Northwood, those are pretty hard to come by.. Since the GX240 only takes PC133 SDRAM, at most 1 Gigabyte, i might grab a 2.0 or 2.4 400FSB, but only if the chip was free or damned cheap..

GX240's can also suffer from bad caps, i've got one at work..

yeah that 400fsb 2.8 is hard to come by.if i got one for around $10 i would stuff it in there.
iirc those boards used hn/hm and stuffed them between vrm and cpu heatsinks.
socket 478 stuff is long dead here.i fix em up and sell to folks on a tight budget.

This one already has all rubycon's and sanyo oscon's after the university returned them to dell.

I don't really think I will even really bother upgrading the processor, maybe a better video card so I can watch dvd's smoothly (the geforce 4 64mb does it with few studders) and play some games on higher settings, but thats not the point of this computer. I use this one for normal everyday things because my gaming rig is so ridiculously loud now.

          Plays UT2004 just fine
