I never found any HWID's that revealed any touchpad. When the logitech receiver was unplugged, there were no HID's either. The keyboard (which works fine) shows as a PS2. When I told the owner about the touchpad issue, he told me he didn't give a f*ck....it didn't work with 10 either, and he uses a mouse with his laptop anyway.....so I wrapped this one up and returned it to him.

After him telling me it never worked in the first place, I'm just going to conclude that the touchpad was simply defective.
    It's a lenovo ideapad .

have you tried Snappy Driver Installer

    https://sdi-tool.org/download/

This has worked for me on both new and old hardware

Weird. You might need some kind of hardware inventory analyser.

One comes with Windows. Win+r and run msinfo32. Look under Components, and Input or possibly Problem Devices and see what you find.

RWEverything access hardware directly. Under SMBios there usually are a Built-in pointing device entry. Anything making any sense?

Otherwise you might want to try some other utility. A few like HWinfo and Sandra I've used before, but not for some time now. I don't remember any particulars of them any more.
    https://www.itechtics.com/check-hard...tails-windows/
    https://www.itechtics.com/10-tools-c...tail-computer/

If you got UBCD on a stick, some of the system utils might reveal something.

At worst, you might have to reinstall W10 to see how it handle the hardware, and if the touchpad works at all. Do you know for a fact that the touchpad is not faulty?

Edit: Does automatic driver update work for you?

I just looked at all of the .infs for this model (this model has drivers for alps, synapitics and elan). It looks like they're all classed under HID. Look at your human interface devices and see if one has a device string that starts with one of the following:

    HID\VEN_ELAN (this is ELAN)
HID\AUI(four hex characters) this is ALPS
    HID\SYNA(number) this is synapitics

I think a service is required for this crap to work

If there's a setting in the BIOS for it, they've hidden it good....I couldn't find it.

heres an idea I thought of last night...did you fn+key to enable/disable the touchpad? see if it's enabled in the bios?

look up the service express number and see what software they have for you for win10 for the touchpad. If it's synapitics, I know they released a unified generic driver from their website but last I looked was some time ago and I don't know it it covers win7 anymore

Should be possible to figure out by looking at the device ID in device manager.
The Win7 version you used: is it the one I have slipstreamed with USB3 & NMVE support?
Just thinking out loud that maybe it does not have the latest USB3 drivers for such a new system.
this is the USB driver I have slipstreamed: Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver_5.0.4.43_v2

I have no idea which touchpad it is....but I think it's the synaptics 'clickpad', as you can press just about anywhere on it, and it clicks....synonymous with the clickpad....but I have no HWID's to verify that. The label on the bottom says '81DE'

no, that would just create more problems. The owner of this thing is a 69yr old man with zero tech skills.

you might have to find some way to install it automatically. With PC's it's usually easy to hook up a PS/2 keyboard. Laptops, different story. Slipstreaming them is the best way usually
USB is working, I have the intel usb3 drivers slipstreamed into the win7 installer, this thing has no usb2....so without, you'd likely get the 'missing media' error during the install.

The keyboard works though. I'd definitely have gone with nvidia graphics if I had a choice.
