Gigabyte EP45-UD3R pin 25 of parallel port not grounded

When I connected a remote control programming cable I made myself, it would not work. I then found that Pin 25 on the parallel port (Pin 24 on the parallel header on the motherboard) was not grounded.

Grounding Pins 18-25 on the remote control programming cable made it work again.

Was a special parallel port backplate required?

Consult the latest parallel spec and see if said pin is noted what it is was and implment a fix to bring it into complicene standards.

Why would Pin25 on the port connect to Pin24 on the header?
