    Linear and 2D barcodes

I'm starting to see these crazy 2D barcodes on stuff now and I am scratchiny my head on what they exactly mean.
I have a PS/2 scanner made by Symbol (the LS 1006) that reads linear barcodes and I am wondering if it will also understand 2D barcodes. Will it?
I'm too lazy to waste ink and a sheet of paper to find out.

    Re: Linear and 2D barcodes

I think not: according to wikipedia, [...] 2-D symbologies cannot be read by a laser as there is typically no sweep pattern that can encompass the entire symbol. They must be scanned by a camera capture device.
Anyway you can print a couple of barcodes on a paper sheet only for testing.

why does this remind me of the old 'cue cat' that radio shack used to give away....

Download the manual for the HHP 4410LR. Page "Sample Symbols" 197-199 show the symbols that it reads. The only interesting one I found is the barcode that FedEx uses.

Sensor on Aurora AS1018CD paper shredder doesn't work
            by CapSnap123
I'm getting frustrated troubleshooting a paper shredder. The way the shredder normally works is when you turn the power on, nothing happens until you insert a piece of paper. There is an IR shredder in the shredder and inserting the paper breaks the beam and starts the shredder motor. But now the motor runs constantly, even when no paper is inserted. I've replaced the photodiode and the IR emitter. Also the relay makes a nice clicking sound so I assume it is working too. I don't know what else to check. Here's a photo of the circuit board. The red and black wires marked IR - go to the...

What are these components that detect paper in a fax scanner
            by waigy
            PROBLEM SOLVED
I DIDN'T REALISE MY SMALLEST SOLDERING TIP COULD JUST FIT BETWEEN THESE COMPONENTS.
I MANAGED TO REMOVE THEM WITH NO DAMAGE TO THE BOARD AND I HAVE MY INTENDED END RESULT.

On a Possio PM70 portable fax machine which has a scanner that detects when you push a piece of paper into the scanner slot.
It is these two small (3mm long) components that detect the paper and start the scanner feed motor which pulls the paper into the scanner.
(These are on the circuit board for the keypad and not the main board)

I want to disable these as...

What Zener Diodes on a Linear Power Supply
            by caspian
            Dear members,

I have a linear variable power supply with unknown brand name that I used for voltage injection.
Then it failed. I discovered that its transistors (Q1 and Q2) are shorted.
In addition, I discovered that its zener diodes are defective.
I can replace the burned transistors.
But I do not know the model of the zener diodes. the model number is not marked on the zener diodes.
Therefore, I cannot replace the zener diodes.
I do not want to test the zener diodes in a test circuit to discover their model or value.
            no schematics are available...

            PNP transistor symbol?
            by SuperAman
I have a question about PNP transistor symbol. Usually the emitter arrow pointing in the direction of the base is at top where the collector would be. I got asked on a test where the arrow is pointing toward the base but was in the spot of the collector. The answer choices was PNP or NPN and forward biased or reverse biased. So is it a PNP that is forward biased or reverse biased? Usually on the schematics for PNP the Emitter is on the top and collector is on the bottom....
