    Rhetorical Server Performance Question.

    Setting up 2 servers and deciding which way to go for the MoBo and CPU's.
    --
    (Use is actually irrelivant to my question but I know someone is going to ask so here it is....)
    --
    Server 1 will be a Linux Terminal Server and Basic File Server.
    [Probably supporting a max of 5-6 terminals at a time.]
    Server 2 will be a Virtual Web Server. [Internet simulator.]

    ~~~~~~
    I haven't done much with dual CPU systems since CPU's were at 550 MHz.
    -
    I'm asking this question to those of you with more recent experience.
    ~~~~~~

    The actual question:

    As the reference system:
    Dual P3 Tualatin system with 2 Tualatin 1.4 GHz [S] processors installed.
    1 GB of CL2 PC133 memory.

    Now:
    Using 1 GB of CL2.5(or 3) DDR (single channel).
    Using the same OS (and drives and everything else)
    Using a single CPU MoBo and a single core CPU.

    What is the minimum P4 CPU I need would need to get **THE SAME** performance as the dual Tualatin system.

    --
    I don't want benchmarking numbers thrown at me.
    ( They aren't 'real world'.)
    --
    I want this to come from actual experience.
    (The 'feel' of one relative to the other.)

    --
    I'm only considering P3-S, Northwood, or Prescott single cores because that's what I have a bunch of right now.

    Need recommended GHz, FSB, cache info for the P4 that 'feels' equivelent to the dual P3's.

    Have I repeated myself enough times yet???

    ~~~
    Thank you in advance!
    Re: Rhetorical Server Performance Question.
    northwood will work the best. prescott blows. but really, 2 dual p3s will kill anything except for the most recent ones (athlon 64 or core/core 2 duo).
      Re: Rhetorical Server Performance Question.
      I actually had a similar scenario not long ago......kind of ironic...
      I built a P4 2.4GHz 800FSB w/HT, 1GB ram. That was comperable in server speed and memory usage with my dual P3 1.4GHz tualatin-s system. P4's without HT are a waste of electricity, period.
        Troubleshooting of redundant F750E-S0 Dell PowerEdge Server
        by omega
        Hello all,
        as a beginner electronics hobbyist, after a few years I would like to place another post on this Forum section, given that I did not succeed in finding any useful advice among the other posts.
        Over the last years, I have been using a PowerEdge Dell Server with two redundant PSUs, namely the 750W F750E-S0 ones (aka 06W2PW). Unfortunately, last summer one of them failed (perhaps owing to an overheating), and the server had for working to take into account the other one only. Of course I opened and tried to troubleshoot the failed PSU, but each cap I tested seemed to...
