Setting up 2 servers and deciding which way to go for the MoBo and CPU's.
--
(Use is actually irrelivant to my question but I know someone is going to ask so here it is....)
--
Server 1 will be a Linux Terminal Server and Basic File Server.
[Probably supporting a max of 5-6 terminals at a time.]
Server 2 will be a Virtual Web Server. [Internet simulator.]
~~~~~~
I haven't done much with dual CPU systems since CPU's were at 550 MHz.
-
I'm asking this question to those of you with more recent experience.
~~~~~~
The actual question:
As the reference system:
Dual P3 Tualatin system with 2 Tualatin 1.4 GHz [S] processors installed.
1 GB of CL2 PC133 memory.
Now:
Using 1 GB of CL2.5(or 3) DDR (single channel).
Using the same OS (and drives and everything else)
Using a single CPU MoBo and a single core CPU.
What is the minimum P4 CPU I need would need to get **THE SAME** performance as the dual Tualatin system.
--
I don't want benchmarking numbers thrown at me.
( They aren't 'real world'.)
--
I want this to come from actual experience.
(The 'feel' of one relative to the other.)
--
I'm only considering P3-S, Northwood, or Prescott single cores because that's what I have a bunch of right now.
Need recommended GHz, FSB, cache info for the P4 that 'feels' equivelent to the dual P3's.
Have I repeated myself enough times yet???
~~~
Thank you in advance!
