"I haven't installed any OSes yet on the build, couldn't find any blank CD-Rs!"

I am glad I have a DVD-RW disc for the same reason.

Somebody needs to come up with a reversible USB-SATA/IDE adapter (so that you can use it to emulate a drive).

I haven't installed any OSes yet on the build, couldn't find any blank CD-Rs! I bought a Pentium III-S 1.4ghz / 512k L2 and a new tall Zalman chipset heatsink from eBay today. Maybe I should have gotten a larger case? The SLK1600 seems kind of cramped... wish I could find one of those tall beige server towers!
If you were local I'd let you look at my junk pile for a case... I have a beat up but roomy and beefy ATX case sitting (blue HEC Compucase).

I'm kinda suprised you didn't go for a straight up P3 Tualie 1.4Ghz... IIRC they're pretty cheap on ebay (but don't quote me on that). But if you're using a coppermine board I see what you mean... if it continues to act up, I do have a recapped shuttle Tualie ATX board in my pile (it's a weird one with an ISA slot of all things, VIA chipset) that I'd be willing to part with (it's been sitting for a long time, pulled from a $10 GW score ages ago).

Huh? I did just buy a P3-S 1.4ghz Tualatin off eBay to use on this board, and it sure was cheap at like $8 or so. This board was part of my second computer so it has some sentimental value, which is why I had my buddy recap it. Thanks for the offer for the other board, though. I don't foresee any future problems, especially with the beefy chipset cooler and additional caps installed in the CPU socket.

Looks cool, but I meant for old computers that don't have USB.

maybe you could write the image to a compact-flash card and put it in an ide adapter.

                i may try it.
