    SMT where through-hole should be?

Somewhere... I don't remember where, but I have a piece of equipment laying around that has SMT caps (not chip type) sitting where a through-hole was meant to be. I guess as long as the solder touches it's okay, right? Is this hard to do or could I mimmick this on pretty much anything?

Sure you can. It's a bit impractical though due to different spacings... i usually scratch copper traces free and use them as pads.
Be sure you don't mix up polarization when using the underside.

      Generic Magsafe charger ghost touches
      by cruiser_
      hi there,
I am trying to fix my generic magsafe charger so that my old macbook does not get 'ghost touches'. When I ground the case with my hand touchscreen works fine, but without it I am getting erratic movements. The charger is class II - no earthing, floating ground.

      What I tried so far
      - add more capacitors to the output (from nF to 2200uF)
      - add RC filter to the output (different coils and capacitors)
      - change the Y cap from default 2.2nF to 1nF, 33nF and remove
      - bridge secondary and primary winding circuit with 4x10M resistors

Panasonic TC-P65ST50 plasma in protection mode after incident
      by HonkBeep04
Hello everyone! I picked up this 65" ST50 plasma TV for $80 on Facebook marketplace two weeks ago. I have the basic electronic knowledge of a teenage computer geek, having assembled laptops and PCs and messed with soldering and software.

This afternoon I decided to disassemble it to mitigate a buzzing noise. This is a well known issue for this TV ever since they were new. The popular solution is to replace the loose internal screws for ones with lock washers, preventing any future buzzing. I figured that I could just fully loosen and tighten all of the screws securing the...

[NOT A RESCUE BIOS] Dell Latitude E6530 Rare Factory BIOS (Revision A86)
      by Amber TC
⚠️ Not a Rescue BIOS. Flash at Your Own Risk. ⚠️

      This is not A17.

This is not listed on Dell's support site.

This is an unreleased internal firmware revision recovered from a university loaner Latitude E6530... and it possibly bricked the system it came from.

It is from the 8 MB Winbond W25Q64 chip. Could be nothing burger but given the anomalies this is a very interesting firmware dump.

Firmware collectors and reverse engineers might find this useful, It contains certs, modules, and DXE drivers not present in A17. This is likely...

DELL LATITUDE 5285 (MB="LA-D89") schematic and boardview requested.
      by master_haze86
      Good day everyone.
Got a dell latitude 5285 with motherboard version LA-D89 in the shop today which won't power on. So I opened her up, disconnected the battery and hooked up a charger to see if anything stands out on the board.
I was instantly greeted with the evil glow of a burnt component. Turns out that what looks like a mosfet with silkscreen marking U7 next to it has burnt out. Been looking for a schematic and boardview to check which component it is but have not been able to find one.
Anyone on here have the files laying around?

Macbook Pro 13 2019 A1989 touchbar cable capacitor value
      by flusher
Got this waterdamaged where oxidation happened under shield on touchbar cable. It showed image but no touch. After I cleaned and resoldered everything except ic (it is sealed anyway) i am getting touches however i find it a bit hit n miss where it works but sometimes missing dragging. Tapping seems fine. I think it might be something to do with this big cap which might be LDO or something. I placed 10v 2.2uF cap there. Anyone could measure it from good/dead touch bar lying around ?...
