    My new PC...

Just dropped almost $1k on a new system

    Athlon 64 X2 5600+ w/2x1MB L2 Cache
    2GB Mushkin DDR2 800
    2x 160GB Western Digital HDD's w/16MB cache
Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3 Socket AM2 Motherboard (Cheap, but has what I need)
    EVGA Geforce 7600GT w/256MB PCI-X16
Netgear GS516T 16 Port Gigabit Switch (and it's pro-grade rackmount...)
2x Intel Pro/1000GT PCI Gigabit NICs (for my servers)

I decided to keep my old Audigy Platinum since I'm not a gamer. In fact I was originally going to go with a Geforce 7100GS video card, but I needed the 7600GT at a minimum if I wanted full Purevideo acceleration with H264 and other video formats. Too bad this card has a fan though... they always go bad after about a year or less.

Let's hope the new Gigabyte works as good as my current one (GA-K8U-939)

And I'm glad I just upgraded to a server grade 700W Zippy Emacs PSU Never again will I mess with cheapo PSU's in my main system.

Damn, I exceeded the daily limit of my Debit card
I hope they try the other half tomorrow instead of cancelling my order

Ya, all the chips will probably fall of the board when it heats up

But remember when gigabit stuff was $$$$$? What's next? Fiber optic LANs in the home?

yeah. gigiabit is nice for sending a few dvd isos from comp to comp and cheap now. i think its necessary to have faster hdds to get a better transfer though.

the beauty of fiber is not speed but that it is possible to do long runs (like few 100 meters @gigabit or kilometers @megabit) but not only that but also avoid ground differential probs when going between buildings.

i was laughing about the intel marketing text. hahaha. check out my environmentally friendly network.

Ya, I remember the first time I connected two 486 PC's together with a 30 foot serial cable to play Doom II. One computer was missing the ground prong on the plug, and it made the other system do some really weird shit

yeah, Intel, such a great humanitarian company. We should bow down and offer our first born to them for all their generosity.
“We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful.
We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything, with nothing.”

Remember the show Hometime that used to be on TLC right up until 2002?
I remember an episode back in 99 where they fitted a new home with fiber optic networking. almost every room in the house had a jack.
                Think how much it cost.
