Re: stupid cpu trick
How are those heatsinks attached? Glue? Those are the exact same heatsinks that I use at work for socket 7/370 systems
I've been looking for the thermally conductive epoxy stuff that is used to glue heatsinks to chips, but it's hard to find around here.
but LOL, I don't think those two added heatsinks are going to do much, being attached to the plastic casingComment

Hahaha, nice find there!"The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it."Comment

Re: stupid cpu trick
Pretty funny! Hmm... maybe I should put an extra CPU heatsink underneath my motherboard sometime.
Looks like a Compaq FIC AZ11? I've got one of those boards also, but mine's green. I never got it to run though. Like yours, that 25V cap on mine was blown. Really lame effort to get away with a cheap cap, by sticking a 25V one on there. It obviously didn't work.Comment

by mitsu2kI know many folks on this forum warn against conductive glue and suggest removing it immediately upon site. I'm here to vouch and say these people know what they are talking about. To be more accurate, the glue isn't intended to be and doesn't actually start out conductive. It gets conductive as it is heated by components that get hot. The glue starts out to be a light tan color but as it is exposed to heat, it gets darker and darker until it is a dark brown. I have found that it becomes conductive at the point that it reaches a light brown color on darker.

by acedogblastThis is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.
There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as... -
so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!!
what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!
i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...-
