Help with finding a video editor

Okay, I need a new video editor, but need suggestions.

    Prerequisites:
-Able to edit .MPG/.MOD (MPEG2) files.
-100% free, no trial, no payment.
-Able to add titles and overlays.
-Needs to run on Windows XP.

The reason I need this is because WMM 2 that comes with XP crashes every time you try to edit MPEG2 files. It will import properly, but crash when it comes to playing the video.

    Can anyone help?

if you want absolutely free, nothing beats making a script in Avisynth and feeding that to a video encoder.

The scripting language has suport for cutting, croping, adding titles, subtitles, etc but you have to write the script yourself.. it's not hard, just something to learn.

Otherwise, freeware editors I really don't know. I used to edit stuff in Virtualdub, but it's not exactly user friendly and doesn't have "drag title where you want to show up" kind of functionality ( i mean simple point and click)

If you don't mind paying a few dollars, what I could suggest is Sony Movie Studio (platinum or not).

I'm currently using it and it works great and has lots of features. You can download a trial from their site but you have to create an account just to do that: www.sonycreativesoftware.com/homestudio

      Anyway, it's cheap on Amazon, version 12 is $47 : http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Movie-Stu...io+platinum+12
But for just mpg videos, you can get version 11 for $23 : http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MSMS11000...io+platinum+12

For the features, it's worth 23 dollars imho.

Sometimes you need to break shit to fix it.... Thats why my lawnmower doesn't have a deadman switch or engine brake anymore
