    Intel Quad core prices

So, in the last month, at my fav computer retailer, the only Quad core processor has gone from $1599 to $1199.

Maybe they'll be even cheaper after Christmas???? A review I read suggested that they would go to $700 by Feb.....is this possible?

If they get that low, I just might have to get two.

    Re: Intel Quad core prices

I'm watching those quad Xeon prices as well. I'm hoping the quad cores will force the prices of older xeons into the basement, that way the 3 dual xeon boards I have get a cheap upgrade...

      Re: Intel Quad core prices

The Xeon 5310 (Cloverton quad-core = 2 x Woodcrest in MCM) has been available at $455 for about a month. However, it only works in the LGA-779 (?) Bensley platform, which requires expensive Fully-Buffered DIMMs (FB-DIMMs) rather than stock DDR/DDR2. I'll wait and watch for a while - meanwhile, we've ordered two dual-socket Tyan Opteron mobos for dual-core Socket-1207 Opterons for delivery in a few weeks. We'll upgrade them to quad-core Barcelona CPUs after 12-18 months.

This looks interesting, but the jury is still out on AMD (for me) and they seem to be big on nVidia.....which I've never had good luck with.

Could you imagine 4 quad-core processors on a board??? I know...i'm never happy...

i would only be impressed if you installed the full 32gb of ram

but seriously, yeh i fancy a tyan or supermicro workstation sometime. i would be satisfied with dual dualcore.

Looking forward to these in the UK. Ashame AMD can't come up with anything better I've
always liked their low prices, was hoping their quad cores would atleast beat
Conroes but it doesn't look likely now.

I look forward to video games that fully utilise 4 cores. Will go nicely with the Geforce 8800 I'm gonna buy pretty soon.

              Re: Intel Quad core prices

Since the Quad core was available at my favorite site, the price started at $1599. Then a week or so later it went to $1499. Earlier this week it was $1199. Now I look and it up to $1399.

More ammo to wait a couple months until prices stabilize. Seems crazy though.

Well....i just looked and the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz chip is now down to $560. I looked like 2 weeks ago or so and it was hanging around $850.

                Its close.......almost........

                  ooooooo....$485.........

the sad thing is, if I put this together, I'll have to get rid of the two VP6s.

...how long will nostalgia hang on??????
