Just for Shovenose.....more XP, Netburst, and Firefox!!
As some of you know, I've been cleaning my attic, pulling all kinds of interesting things out of there...
I've had a Dell precision up there since I did the remodel, I took it out of service a couple years ago, as its duties were off'd onto another machine. So yea, no big deal....it was a dual SL7ZF (3GHz Irwindale single core, 2mb cache)...was a decent machine for a netburst wonder....well in the process of my cleanup, I found a couple interesting CPU combos... First is a pair of 3.6GHz Irwindale core QAMW, which is a pair of engineering samples....unlocked multiplier!! They ran in the 470 @ 3.6....but Dell and their denutted BIOS didn't allow for any tweaking....so meh... I then came into a pair of 2.8GHz SL8MA 4mb Dual core Paxville core Xeons.....hmmmm Keeping in mind that the Precision 470/670 was never intended to run dual core or paxville core CPU's, the searching I did yielded more negative than positive results. It seems some boards would run them, some wouldn't...it was a crapshoot, so I didn't have much hope that it would do anything....but being attic junk, I figured what the hell and stuck 'em in there.... This message is being posted from it... It's dual core WITH HT....so its showing 8 cores. For netburst (and dual core at that), they're running pretty cool actually, but noticeably warmer than the single core CPU's...and the machine is snappier than I ever remember it.... Theres 8gb of RAM in it and a 7600GT video card....and for the XP lovers, x64.
Not bad for an attic find!! I have no idea where these processors came from, probably a goodie box somewhere over the years.... Hail the free quadcore system!!
I did have to recap it....like 3~4 years ago when it was given to me...
