Re: AMD Athlon XP 1GHz Enough for streaming Netflix?
probably no. nf is sliverlight, and sliverlight video streaming seems to have practically no hardware acceleration. I watched nf on this system /w my 46" samsung
C2D 6600 (2.4)
integrated nvidia 7025
2gb
XP Pro
it lagged a little, got some frame tearing too
I put Win7 Pro on it, put a HD 2600 video card, and it played a little better
I think part of the problem was my desktop was running 1080p, which means the software rendering for silverlight has to render much harder
if you ran your own resolution smaller, it might workCap Datasheet Depot: http://www.paullinebarger.net/DS/

Re: AMD Athlon XP 1GHz Enough for streaming Netflix?
Ummmm I want to say there is not a snowball's chance in hell that it would run it. Of course it might, but it would be choppy and the quality would totally suck ass. You would need at least a Geforce 6600 graphics card, which is about the fastest card you can find in AGP interface that doesn't cost a fortune.
Actually what you really need is a system running Windows 7 and a good graphics card, at least a Radeon HD 4650, 5550, or 6000 series.
Why? Because Windows 7 is capable of shifting nearly all the hardware decoding to your GPU. Windows XP can do it, but it cannot take full advantage of your hardware. The lower end cards such as the 3450, 4350, and 5450 series have the hardware functionality as their more powerful counterparts, but they lack the horsepower to get the job done. All ATI pre-HD series cards cannot do any hardware H.264 decoding as well making them effectively obsolete as well.

Re: AMD Athlon XP 1GHz Enough for streaming Netflix?
It worked fine for a about 45 seconds - then it overheated and shut off...
I replaced it with a lousy old HP Compaq with a 2.4GHz Celeron and it is quieter, and much smoother video playback. Still a bit jumpy at parts but good enough for the shitty old monitor/TV anyway
Now to convince mom to let me leave the "ugly computer" in the living room...

I have a 2.8 celeron. can that box take a 533 bus chip? I have access to a bunch of 2.53 P4/533'sCap Datasheet Depot: http://www.paullinebarger.net/DS/

most media center cases are usually microatx, you're assuming this HP pc is micro atx--and not one of thier proprietary modelsCap Datasheet Depot: http://www.paullinebarger.net/DS/

Re: AMD Athlon XP 1GHz Enough for streaming Netflix?
OK This is frustrating...
First, my mom wouldn't let me leave the PC sitting there, but I said it could fit on the shelf and she would have been OK with that- so she cleared off the space and I tried to put the PC sitting there... DAMN IT WAS 1/2 INCH TOO TALL to fit into the shelf!
So, I tried the Athlon XP again, this time with a better fan so it wouldn't overheat - not fast enough, it jittered too much...
Next, I took another random PC I had sitting around and planned to sell at some point... well damn I couldn't find an audio driver for it so now I remember why I never sold it...
WHY THE HECK CAN I NOT FIND A SINGLE PC THAT FITS AND WORKS WHEN I HAVE 20???
