    Identifying surface mount component

So I wasn't being careful today, and I managed to rip a surface mount component from a video card.

The component is in a rectangular package, maybe 1x2mm in size. One long side of the rectangle had 2 legs, the other long side of the rectangle had 3 legs. The only markings I can make out on the thing are "VE"

Does anybody know what this might be? I can't resolder the old one back on, as the legs are still attached to the card, but not the component. It's a cheap video card, so there's no pressing need for me to hold onto it, but if it's a part I can get for 50 cents or something, no point in throwing it out either.

I tried taking a photo, but it is too small to make anything out - it just looks like a small black rectangle.

    Any advice appreciated!

If its just a capacitor thw card may work without it

      not a cap,

ouch. likely no way of telling the value... i might be wrong, but i thinkt he card is only good for the bracket

        Re: Identifying surface mount component

Are there any marking on the PCB board that might hint what the component is? (For example, marking with D is for diode, Q is transistor, etc.). From your description, it sounds like an IC or transistor of some sort. Probably important, so I wouldn't try running the video card without it.

The closest I can find is VB and VC, which according to this are both NPN RF Amplifiers, but those only have 3 legs total (not 5, like you described).
Also, how old is the video card? The SMD code book I linked to above was last updated 2006.

Absolutely nothing on the board marking what it could be.

            Here's the card:
            http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121310

Newegg has a zoomable picture of the back of the card. The component in question is right above the notch in the connector. I "missed" the pci express slot on a motherboard, and the adjacent PCI slot sheared off whatever the component was.

Oh well, at least it was a cheap card.

                  It's a 74LVC1G08GW single 2-input AND gate.

The only component I could find in that package and with the VE marking, was the component I linked to.
