    1st Try!

    Hi,
I found myself with regular crashes ( several in one night over a 2 hour period ), I tried all the tweaks not realising it was a hardware issue not software, A helpful local engineer told me some caps had failed and advised I could repair, or upgrade, I began to read and found badcaps.

I found the two failed caps and ordered a full set of superior Panasonic replacements, just to say my solder technique is atrocious, but I took time and managed to get one cap secure but the other does have a little give
    ( generally NOT good).

Why post this, well my machine has posted first time and that was 2 weeks ago, and runs better now that it has for along long time, I bought the machine 2004. I conducted three Memtests, all proven passes. Id be interested to hear if the cap with a little give could still NOT be correctly connected to the board which may result in trouble at a later stage OR would it be fair ( or safe ) to say both replaced caps are integrating well with the board?

FYI , my 70W gas solder iron would not completely melt the solder and I was faced with catch22: scrap the board or use a 1mm drill bit to clean out the holes, I used the bit and got the above result BUT its your choice.

    All the best ,

    Re: 1st Try!

Congrats on getting it running! Now your issue depends on why the cap has a little 'give'. Is it because the solder joints aren't good, and the capacitor is loose? Or is it soldered in well and just the can of the capacitor is a mm or two above the board, so it can wobble a little? The second is just fine, there are numerous projects of mine where the caps aren't perfectly flush with the board, and everything runs fine. The first though might cause a problem. If the second cap isn't actually connected how it's supposed to be, that will put a lot more stress on the other caps, which will cause them to fail prematurely, and could cause more stability issues. A good, close range, in focus picture of the solder joints will help people here assist you in your diagnosis. Good luck!

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
      by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

      Assuming...

      Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Guide to transplant MEC1503 EC chip and EEPROM reprogamming for T14s gen 2 and X13 gen 2
      by acedogblast
This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

      Sony xbr-65x900c main board issues?
      by jb_Bak
Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:
Power Board Connector that goes to Main board
      CN6401
      Pin 01 NC
      Pin 02 NC
      Pin 03 "BL_ON": 0V
      Pin 04 "N/C"
      Pin 05 "STBY 3.3V": 3.5V
      Pin 06 "GND": N/C
      Pin 07 "AC_OFF"...
