"Audio" and "vintage" are the keywords. Some people think old caps sound better.

They looks to be bakelite capacitors just like Roederstein's EKU.

They are fancy and they are vintage, with a diameter really insane for a capacitance of 300uF (26mm). Maybe due to their low E.S.R. being harder to produce in a smaller diameter back in the day.

Roederstein EK/EKUs can be found in 80s amplifiers. Desoldered some and still measuring good.


A more than good substitute would be a Panasonic FC (I doubt that these Callins have a lower E.S.R.).

you dont actually know that without a ripple current test and a bode-plot of the frequency response.
not that we know the original spec.

those are always shot in anything i see them in.
just had a zenith trans oceanic where 1 was so leaky it exploded when the customer put in a set of charged nicads.
i suspect that epoxy seal cracked with thermal cycling and they (mostly) dry out.
they are replace on sight 1st step of restoration.
they were junk within a few years when the radios were relatively new.
