Identifying the Cause of Bad Caps

Hi,

My graphics card supplier, after a long and drawn out "debate" has agreed to take a look at my card to see if their was a manufacturing fault.

The card has blown four caps in as many weeks and I have used two different power supplies in this time.

My question is this... I have a feeling that the supplier may have a look at the card and try to imply that there is a power issue (as this was mentioned already), I need to know if it is possible for their engineer to tell if this is the case from looking at the card alone?

My initial thought was this would be impossible, but I am no electronics expert.

I'd appreciate a little help.

i would think a power issue that bad would have destroyed the semiconductors.

What power supplies were you using? Even so, as stj said, a bad psu would have caused more than just the caps.

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000

Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!

I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

Assistance with identifying replacement caps on ASUS P5VDZ-MX

Hello,

So, pulled a motherboard out from storage, was working when put away, wont post when I took it out of storage today.
Since it was working, and it looks to be essentially time that killed it I figured its a good idea to replace the caps before digging further.
Looks to be only good quality caps on this board, so might not be the issue. But it is closing in on 20 years now so, wont hurt i guess

Its a ASUS P5VDZ-MX board.

I would really appreciate some assistance on what the best replacement caps would be for these:

Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps

Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

my trannie sister is smoking hot again: gf4 ti card smoked during use due to bad caps

got a pny gf4 ti 4200 card off junkbay. it had some junk caps on it but they looked fine.

when i got it, i noticed they were canicon junk caps. eight of them on the top of the pcb. i first tried testing it in ubuntu. it worked fine on the 2d desktop. but when i tried running glxgears, it would constantly freeze.

so i had to boot windows to test it. when testing it in benchmarks, i noticed sometimes there would be some specific textures that were either garbled or corrupted. rather odd. upon further testing, i noted that the corruption occurs in a video memory overflow...
