    pavilion bad cap, replacement suggestions

I got a HP Pavilion a1140n here. It came in with a blown power supply and when i asked after looking at it and found a bad cap, I was told the pc has been freezing up for no reason. it is a KZG 9 mil wide (probably supposed to be 8) 18mil high 1000uf 16v cap. there are 4 of them on the board, but only 1 is looking a bit bloated.. Since they are Chemi-con caps, i was wondering, do you think it best to replace all of them or just the one that looks bad? if they were a cheap brand or if moe then 1 was looking a little funny, then i would not think twice, but did not know if there have been many problems with these caps.. all the rest of the caps on the board look fine.. it is just mainly that one.

Replace all Chemi-Con KZG and KZJ on the motherboard. They can fail without showing it. You can use rubycon MBZ/MCZ which are available from badcaps.net

I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

Yes, Chemi-con KZG and KZJ series were defective and are sensitive to heat.

Same with Nichicon HD and HM. Sensitive to heat and failure prone.

Don't you mean HN and HM? Nichicon HD are usually reliable.

That would explain it then why that mainly was the one with problems.. That was the only one that had a cap in the out air flow direction of the heatsink on the processor. there were others around the processor, actually they all are, but that was the only one in the flow of the air..

Thanks.. and all 4 will definitely be getting replaced.
