Replaced caps but monitor doesn't come on

I just replaced three caps on a Dell GX270 motherboard but when I put it back in and turned it on the monitor doesn't engage. The computer boots from what I can tell, with the hard drive light looking like it is running through the start up process but no monitor. Was wondering if another cap might be bad that I could tell was bad and didn't replace. Also since this was my first attempt at soldering a motherboard I may have gotten her too hot and burned a circuit near one of the caps that I changed.... Is there any tests or process where I can tell what I might have done or is this motherboard basically just toast? Thought since these boards had such a problem with caps that someone might know quite a lot about it. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Replaced caps but monitor doesn't come on

If you notice hard drive activity (other than the normal POST process), the odds are you didn't do permanent damage. I'm not familiar with this motherboard, so some of my suggestions may not apply.

The first step is to double check ribbon cables, the monitor, video board, etc. You wouldn't be the first guy to hook up a ribbon cable wrong.

Next, I'd suggest using a good magnifier and looking over the area around the caps you replaced. Look for solder splashes, solder 'bridges', and damaged traces.

If that still doesn't fix the problem I'd suggest taking this discussion to the forum area dedicated to motherboard repair!

For a number of reasons, both health and personal, I will no longer be active on this board. Any PMs asking for assistance will be ignored.

      Thanks Bill
I did two other boards afterward and they worked fine. I will get back on this one probably over he weekend and see if there is any hope. I could see a small spot on the board where I got a little hot with the solder iron. Thought I might have burned a circuit or maybe didn't get a good solder joint connection on one of the caps.... I'll look it over and try posting on the motherboard repair board as you suggest. Thanks again Ed

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

Replacement caps for Samson Resolv studio monitor 65A Amp board.
        by black6host
        Good day!

I have a Samson Resolv studio monitor that has no sound output. I've opened it up and found two caps that are bulging on what I believe to be the power supply section of the amplifier board. The board is marked Resolv 65A AMP V1.2. The caps in question are YUSCON, 2200uF, 35V, 85C temp and have markings of RA(P) and are 16mm x 25.5mm tall. I've attached the schematic and the caps in question are C5 and C6. I'm assuming they are low esr caps. I've tested both caps and they test low uF, nowhere near 2200uF.

I'm going to replace the caps and I'll be the first...

Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!
        by momaka
I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

Dell monitor PSU vs Dell laptop PSU
        by keepread
        Hi there!
Someone gave me their old monitor, it's Dell S2715ht.
The owner was using it when his PSU began to smell and then to smoke. It literally began to melt. He turned the monitor off, pulled the PSU, and ditched it because it was smelly even after it cooled. So I got the monitor but not the plug.
Now, I tried to bring the monitor back to life, by plugging one of my many Dell laptop PSUs. They are of the same 19.5V, and the wattage of the laptop PSU is higher than that which the monitor is rated for. Visually, the socket on the monitor seems compatible, and the plug plugs...

Westinghouse L2210NW LCD monitor - bad caps repair
        by momaka
Here's another LCD monitor repair: Westinghouse L2210NW.
Quick specs: 22” CCFL backlit LCD, 1680x1050 max resolution (16:10 aspect ratio)

I got it with a bunch of desktops PCs from a repair shop that was trying to free up space a few years ago. It seemed like a cheap monitor, so I didn't really care that much at first when I picked it up (and indeed it is, picture-wise.) But hey, free is free, so I can't complain. Moreover, it looked clean and the screen didn't have any significant scratches or blemishes.

Pictures of the monitor outside/case after a brief...
