Today I opened up my main rig to change the thermal paste. I put some fresh new as5 and noticed that the caps on the vrm aren't japanese. All other caps on the mobo are ncc. Does anybody know what brand they are?
good or bad solid caps?

Re: good or bad solid caps?
that is quite likely a chemicon pse poly cap. i attached the datasheet for it. its the longer life and miniaturized version of the psc series. there is probably no chemicon logo on it because its too small with a diameter of only 6.3mm.
coincidentally, as i was replying to another post, i saw another member also has this same cap albeit with different datecodes/factory codes on his board and doing usb and expansion slot filtering work instead of vrm filtering. link to post. link to image.Attached FilesLast edited by ChaosLegionnaire; 09-20-2016, 09:23 PM.

by momakaI know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.
For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

by momakaNormally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

(if he is still reading BCN forums) – I got a new old stock / open box Casing Power MPT-301 PSU on eBay for $4 total.
Yes, it’s a very generic-looking box, but the manufacturer isn’t (at least not back in the days), which is…
Macron Power Technology Co. LTD.
Let’s look at the PSU itself.
The shell/case also appears quite generic, like many “sold-with-the-PC-case” units. However, the shell is well-formed and has decent steel thickness. In terms of... -
by eryjusHello,
First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.
I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.
I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

by bulkchart32nichiconare what i used because i had heard the voltage doesn't matter as long as it is more than the original cap. i'm now reading that high voltage may make the cap's esr too high. is this a good cap for replacing those oem ones?
