    3300uf 6.3v capacitor for lga755 pentium 4 motherboard

Hello, i need to change 3300uf 6.3v bulged capacitor, on lga755 pentium 4 motherboard.
It's the only big capacitor, mobo is miniatx.

    what i see on capacitor:
    3300uf 6.3v
    KZG
    (m) 105°C
    5(2)
    9n
    i'm pretty sure it's 10x25mm.

i wanted to put in 3300uF 10V 105°C 12.5x20mm panasonic fr series, but decided to ask.

In my last question about recapping p3 mobo, i got recommendation for Panasonic FM Chemicon KZE, Nichicon HD, Nichicon HW, Nichion HM, Nichion HN, Rubycon ZL, Rubycon ZLH, Rubycon ZLG, and Rubycon ZLG.
But those where for p3, so i'm not sure.

Is panasonic fr good enough, or i need something else?
Do i need same size 12.5x20mm or i can use 10x25mm?

No need to increase the voltage, you wont find a 10v 3300uF in an ultra-low ESR anyway. These will take care of it:

Tank you for quick answer, but shipping cost is overkill.
I would like to get something decent from farnell, as shipping would be free.
      Farnell doesn't have "rubycon 3300uF 6.3v 10mm MCZ".

Would any of those be good? Panasonic FM Chemicon KZE, Nichicon HD, Nichicon HW, Nichion HM, Nichion HN, Rubycon ZL, Rubycon ZLH, Rubycon ZLG, and Rubycon ZLG.

I'm not looking for the best, but descent solution.

        you could polymod it.
        it may tolerate a 2000uf

inDeBois : you can use Panasonic FM , FR or Nichicon HM , HN , maybe even HW . In the order of performance I would say HN > HM >= HM > FR

One or two of the series you mentioned from Rubycon may be good but I'm too lazy to look up the specs to see which ones would be suitable. The Panasonic and Nichicon ones I know would work.

Chemicon KZE is not quite as good as the above series but I feel it would actually work without problems.

Tip: you can use capacitors rated for higher voltage, for example you can buy either 6.3v or 10v rated capacitors to replace your capacitor.

Also... KZG is a series of capacitors that's really bad, it can fail even without swelling or showing signs of failure (the performance of the capacitor degrades before you actually see capacitor swollen).

I see near your capacitor some other Chemicon capacitors, at least three seem to be 1000uF 16v (closer to the 4 pin cpu power connector). You should replace those as well even if they don't look bad, but you can be more relaxed about those, they don't have to be 1000uF precisely, you can replace them with 1200uF or 1500uF capacitors if 1000uF is not available - same series as above would be recommended, but here Chemicon KZE or maybe Rubycon ZL* could also be used with no worries (the slightly higher esr compared to the other series won't matter much)

Here's a few suggestions/links from the .fr version of Farnell's site:

          hm 3300/6.3 http://fr.farnell.com/nichicon/uhm0j...f-6/dp/2113082

          fm 3300/6.3 http://fr.farnell.com/panasonic-elec...f-6/dp/1219450 (note 12.5mm diameter)

          fm 3300/10 http://fr.farnell.com/panasonic-elec...10v/dp/1219458 (note 12.5mm diameter)

          fr 3300/10 http://fr.farnell.com/panasonic-elec...10v/dp/1800627 (note 12.5mm diameter)

rubycon zlj 3300/6.3 http://fr.farnell.com/rubycon/6-3zlj...f-6/dp/2346439 (works like chemicon kze would work)

            Re: 3300uf 6.3v capacitor for lga755 pentium 4 motherboard

Is it ok to mix capacitor series in this concrete case?
For example i would use panasonic FM 3300uf 6.3v.
And panasonic FR 1000uF 16V. As they are in local shop, and 1000uf get less stress(or i can order FM, but will need to wait and and they will be twice as expensive).

            @mariushm
I would say HN > HM >= HM > FR
i guess you mean: nichicon HN > HM >= FM(hm typo?) > FR panasonic?

            @stj
            you could polymod it.
            it may tolerate a 2000uf
Farnell has Radial Can - SMD 3300uf polymod. Or smd are different beast and not suitable?

              Re: 3300uf 6.3v capacitor for lga755 pentium 4 motherboard

I mean HN has slightly better specs than HM which in turn is more or less equal in specs to Panasonic FM which is ever so slightly better than Panasonic FR (FR is sort of a custom FM series, same specs but a bit different dimensions, often taller, but much longer life)

All of the above have technical specs that are more than suitable to replace your KZG series capacitor.

Yes, you can mix capacitors from different series on your board so feel free to order FM or FR, whatever it is in stock and that fits your budget.

No, you should not use surface mount capacitors on your board, stay with leaded capacitors.
On this particular motherboard, I would advise against using a polymer capacitor to replace your 3300uF capacitor. Keep the capacitance the same.

On most motherboards where multiple 3300uF capacitors are used in the circuit, it's possible to replace the electrolytic capacitors with polymer capacitors and because the polymer capacitors have specifications that are much better in general compared to electrolytic capacitors, it's safe to reduce the capacitance a bit.

On your particular motherboard, since it's a single capacitor there, the capacitance may matter more than most cases, so I'd say keep the capacitance at 3300uF.

i didnt see those in 6.3v
and smd caps dont have regular wires under them.

Tank you. Panasonic caps ordered, mobo is waiting for recapping .

I think we may have the same motherboard.
