there doesn't seem to be any electrolytic caps on this side, so i'd say no bad caps. and if that's a SONY notebook, then it's very likely there are no bad caps.Comment

Hello
this is a rio volt portable mp3 cd player main board
accidentally its 120ac power adapter was used with 220ac
the unit worked for few seconds and then off and never worked again
it normally takes 3volts batts or 4.5dc from the adapter socket
in the picture I believe this is the main power IC (4 channels)
it is the only area in the board that barely gets warm after few minutes
drawing 0.4 watts in total continuously
i did checked all the caps on the board including these caps around the IC
nothing is shorted... -

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.
I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.
I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. 
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

nichiconare what i used because i had heard the voltage doesn't matter as long as it is more than the original cap. i'm now reading that high voltage may make the cap's esr too high. is this a good cap for replacing those oem ones?1500 µF 16 V Aluminum - Polymer Capacitors Radial, Can 8mOhm 2000 Hrs @ 105°C -
