Question about a recapped Soltek 75kv+

    Hello again,

Another MB, I recapped for a friend of mine is Soltek 75kv+.
    It had following caps leaking:
    - 6x3300nF 6,3V,
    - 6x1000nF 6,3V
    - 1x1500nF 6,3V
I couldn't know if the caps were the only problem for not posting, so I recapped it for testing with some cheap electrolytic caps that I found on a store. Replaced them as followed:
    - 3300nF 6,3V with Sanwha(I think) 3300nf 6,3V
    - 1000nF 6,3V with Jamicon TK 1000nF 10V
    - 1500nF 6,3V with Jamicon TK 2200nF 10V
After recapping the MB did post and I already installed WinXP on it. It's working ok, but for how long?

    Thanks, omuletz

Re: Question about a recapped Soltek 75kv+

    Hi Omuletz

not there expert here and some people here will probably give you a better idea on them.
    Here's my thoughts on them

First off I think you mean uF as in Micro farad (10-6) not nf nano farad (10-9)

For how long is anybodies guess but you have seemed to prove that the caps are the fault
if its working with that lot in there.

Ideally if you want max life you use good quality low ESR caps.
    Thats the simple short answer

I don't know the spec on the caps you are using but if they are General purpose their ESR will probably be a bit higher which is not really ideal and will shorten there lives.
(and possibly put a bit more stress on components).

As time goes on it will start misbehaving again as the cap die

I think it will last awhile if you are not having problems but really if you want reliability
then good quality low ESR is the only way to go.

I think the brands are avg run of them mill quality, they don't appear on the badcaps list (not that i could see anyway)

If you are intend to do recapping and are finding quality caps hard to source or way expensive.

Perhaps try TC or Big pope for the Samxon range.

    Cheers HTH

I would second that those caps are not very well suited for your needs.
All brands you have mentioned are for shure not a lasting choice for any seriouse use on mainboards.
The ESR of all those series are far to high, ripple current specs far too low and endurance is only abouth 1000 to 2000h@ 105°c with probably les ripple than on this board.

So, if you like to have this board longer in seriouse use than a few months, i fore shure suggest to use at least Panasonic FC`s or better.

If you stated your location, we can easily direct you to some locations, where you can get good caps.
