My LG 37lc2d recently blew a capacitor, since I've never soldered on a board I asked a friend of mine to do it. He tried to remove the old cap today with no luck. He said he turned ths iron all the way up to 700 degrees and it wouldnt melt the solder on the board. Anybody have any suggestions?

Re: Cap Removal Issues
The surface where the wire of the capacitor comes through the board can be so small, the tip of the solder gun can't make proper contact with the copper pad and the capacitor wire, so the area never heats up to the point where the solder becomes liquid.
In such cases, the solution is to just melt some solder on the tip of the gun and make contact between the gun and that wire so that the extra blob of solder will transfer the heat.
Add some solder to the other pin of the capacitor, then alternate between heating each solder blobs while wiggling the capacitor with your fingers or a tool.
Stainless steel needles also help, to clear the hole after removing the capacitor.
Solder on boards is usually the kind that only melts at about 235c, so the gun needs to heat up to about 300c. If you add regular solder with lead, this solder turns liquid at about 180c, so it helps adding a bit.
