    GeForce 6600 Blown Capacitors

    Hi all,

I have GF 6600 and just figured out that 3 of my capacitors are very very damaged. (attachment)

The Capacitor parameters are: FZ5C 1500 6.3V. does anybody know replacement for this? What does 1500 means? 1500 uF ?

    Regards

Sacon FZ, known crap. Replace all with Rubycon MBZ at the least.

Yes, your caps are 1500uF 6.3v. You'll also need two 330uF/16V caps for those other two Sacons. Replace every cap with "FZ" in it.

Thanks for the info.. I'll replace those 5 caps.... It's funny how the card still works without nvidia drivers installed.. When I'll enable nvidia drivers everything go in hell...

      Happy New Year!!! cheers

Be sure you use low ESR capacitors, such as Rubycon MBZ. General purpose caps (like the ones Radioshack sells) will not work.

Panasonic FM/FR , Rubycon MBZ/ZL*, Nichicon HM/HN/HZ, UCC KZE ... all will work fine.

The board worked fine with those Sacon going out of spec for months probably, so there's some room, no need to search for super ultra low esr like those MBZ capacitors.

why do a half-ass repair job?
if your ordering parts anyways the price differance is in the cents...

It's not a half assed job. The specifications of the capacitor series above are all within a few percent of those MBZ series capacitors.

The MBZ series was discontinued in 2010 and according to the datasheet, the last large orders for this series were accepted in 2009.

So, no matter where you'd order such capacitors, they're at least 2 years old and you have no guarantee they were stored in reasonable conditions, unless you happen to find them at some well known distributor.

Further, precisely because people like you recommend them and praise them, there's a lot of fakes out there so if the person tries to get them off eBay, it's quite possible he's gonna get fake stuff.

Here's for example a comparison between MBZ and ZLG:

              https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...3bb75aa682.pdf

              1500uF 6.3v ZLG : 10x20 2180mA 0.014 ohm
              1500uF 6.3v MBZ : 10x12.5 1540mA 0.026 ohm
              1500uF 6.3c ZLH : 8x20 1500mA 0.029 ohm

and there are other series... so you have a slightly taller capacitors with better specs... or thinner and almost identical specs... and do you really think 2 year old capacitors will actually have those datasheet specs?

And even more importantly, do you think the circuit is so finely tuned, it would care about 0.026 or 0.014 when the Sacon caps had 0.020 ohm or something like that in the datasheet and they were crap.

ZL* capacitors are available and they're cheap, no need to keep using old stock capacitors: http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/bro...57+100329+2031

Same story with the other series.

you made alot of good points.
i dont know these things, your first post sounded like half-ass.
but your reasoning is solid as it gets...
caps are so complicated, im still learning.

thanks for the explination on all that, i like panasonic caps. i get them from digikey.com they seam to be really good i select caps based off the hours @ 105c i like the 5000-10000 hour models. so i most likely wouldnt have bought the ruby's but i know ruby and feel there good. infact i bought some 3300uf 6.3's MBZ off ebay a few months ago they've fixed quite a few motherboards.
i didnt realize they were "OLD"...

                  by jossbnr34
Hi, recently acquired a second-hand MSI Geforce RTX 3060 Ti Twin Fan 8G LHR graphics card. After spending two days trying everything and going crazy because my PC didn't detect it, and the fans weren't spinning, I couldn't figure out where the problem was. Yesterday, I found that some capacitors were missing, and some were broken. I imagine it might have been due to a fall or something like that. I'm trying to find a diagram of my card to see what type of capacitors it uses and their voltage to attempt a repair if possible. I'm new to this, but I have done some simpler soldering repairs on video...
