    smd capacitor markings

    hello, I'm trying to read the values of this solid smd capacitor that came from a MSI 8600 gt video card. the values printed on it are as follows..

    7Z
    100
    EZA

    any help would be appreciated.

    It's definitely 100uF.

    The voltage, I don't know. However, the maximum voltage on a video card is 12v, so at most you'll need a capacitor rated for 16v, that will work for sure.

    If the capacitor is after the voltage converter on the video card, the voltages can be as low as 1.8-2v, so this one may be rated as low as 4-6.3v.

    Polymers rated for 16v may be too large for you but I can't tell the dimensions from the picture - there's no reference (coin or a ruler). I'd recommend posting an image of the whole video card, from where you removed the capacitor.

    It's not smd btw ....or doesn't look like one... the regular smd capacitors have the terminals on the side on a square base.

      it does have a base, my son knocked it off installing the vid card. i hope this pic helps some. the card has surface or thru hole mounting for that cap.

      it does come up as 94 on my capacitor meter

        That rectangular chip above the location of the capacitor takes the 12v from the computer and generates a lower voltage for the video card's use.

        The picture is out of focus so please write down what it says on that chip - with that information, we may find the datasheet and determine what voltage it generates.
        For example, if that chip generates 1.8v, then a capacitor rated for maximum 2.4v would be ok. If it's for 3.3v, then a 4v may be suitable and so on.

        But as you can see below, for that diameter, the lowest voltage rating is 4v so probably all the recommendations below will be good for you. Doesn't hurt to double check though.

        In the meantime, use the ruler to determine the diameter and height - height is less important as it looks like there's no heatsink or any other things above it that would be affected if you choose a taller capacitor.

        It looks like that's a 6.3 mm (diameter) one, so these would probably do just fine:

          sorry about the pic quality. to get it that good i had to shoot it through a magnifying glass.
          the diameter is 6.3mm, and height w/base is 8mm.
          the black chip next to it is as follows.

          hope this helps, as my son would like his expensive vid card to work again.

            Ok, that helps but it's not actually a chip used to regulate power, it's just some sort of special transistor.

            I'm fairly sure a 6.3v one will do but if you don't mind ordering the minimum quantity of 5, go for the 16v ones.

            Or check other online stores, for example see if you can get one of these from farnell.com, should be just as good (ignore the pictures, they're generic for the series of capacitors, don't show the correct values):

              if mine has a height of 8mm w/base wouldn't it be best to match it for ripple, or is that not important in this caps area? Sorry I'm just a wanabe, do it yourself electronics nubee, trying to learn.

                I've already took care of that when I made the selection - the ones from digikey have the highest specs.
                Anyway... the 16v nichicon ones are rated for 2700 mA ripple... that's quite a lot. In real world, I think there shouldn't even be 1000mA ripple on that area.

                    I did not notice it detaching, so I am unsure of its original location on the PCB.

                    Hi. I need help from wiser guys. I am amateur in electronics and can't figure this out by myself.
                    I bought faulty speakers, M-Audio AV40's. Other speaker has all the electronics in it and the other speaker is just passive one powered by the other speaker's amp. Original problem with the speakers was loud buzzing. I figured out that there is something wrong with the capacitors. I went ahead and replaced every electrolytic capacitor on the PCB. The caps are good quality and have the same values as the original ones.

                    I am trying to determine the value of a blown capacitor, and the boadview shows the values for many of the capacitors and other components on this board, but all of the information blank on others.

                    Is there any relevance to the fact that some of these values are left out, or is it just inconsistency by whoever created the boardviews?

                    Is there any way to deteremine if one without infrormation matches one that shows those details?

                    I replaced some capacitor which is located on optical pickup pcb which is shown in the table below(PCB #2).Because it have been out of order.
                    Now,It works very well,But I just have found that all caps (6svpc100my and other part number as well) ,which is shown in the table below, has ultra-high ripple current spec.
                    It is not able to obtain any capacitor which can be a substitute for this ultra-high ripple current nichicon capacitor.
                    So I replaced it with samxon and rubycon's general capacitor(GP,YXA series).
                    I know that these capacitor will not last as long as nichicon capacitor...
