Hi, I have two speaker docks, model number: 809b that I bought from Costco, that stopped working a few months back. On one of them, the display flashes 12:00 but it won't connect to a speaker. On another one, the display doesn't light up at all but the wireless sync light flashes. I have uploaded the photos of the main PCB for the one whose display flashes 12:00.
Thank you to the guys at HEGE supporting Badcaps [ HEGE ] [ HEGE DEX Chart ]

Re: Ilive Speaker Dock 809B
The build quality is really poor- I see a bunch of bad solder joints on the buttons and there's some burnt parts around Q1. Very hard to guess what the parts are and why they cooked, and it could be a design problem. Capacitors are no-namers but I don't see any prego ones. Costco has good warranty, I'd take it back...

Re: Ilive Speaker Dock 809B
That Q1 looks like it died and took some parts with it from the other side, or the pcb could have that burn from the components under it.
Right after it on the other side (picture 1), there's what seems to be a ceramic capacitor that may or may not be blown and then there's that large square chip that seems to be stuck with that goop of glue to the board.
Write down what it says on those parts and maybe we can go from there.
Also get some isopropyl alcohol and some ear cleaning tips and try to clean that area of all that black stuff ... rub some cotton tips dabbed in isopropyl alcohol (ipa) on the area.
If you don't have ipa around you, sanitary alcohol works too.
Unplug everything before you try to clean.
If the q1 is dead, it's quite possible the capacitor near it died as well from heat (if the transistor was dying for a long time causing lots of heat) and that zener diode could be shorted as well.
ps. yeah, if costo has warranty, you're better off returning it.

It looks like the MLC cap had shorted out, that Q1 looks like it is for voltage regulator with that Zener Z1 diode close by. Also check that big SMD transistor next the burnt cap also.Never stop learning

Re: Ilive Speaker Dock 809B
You need to remove it off the board. Set your meter to Diode mode, with the transistor's legs pointed down and flat side facing you, then keep the red probe on the middle pin, take the reading with black probe on the left pin, and when it is on the right pin.
Do the same again but have the black probe at the middle pin instead. Report the reading.Never stop learning
