Dell OptiPlex 790 for a Gaming PC

So in the Winter of 2017, I acquired a bunch of used/broken desktop PCs from a shop that was cleaning out its storage. Most of them were from the Core 2 Duo and Athlon II era or older. There was one “modern gem” among them, though (at least by my PC standards ): a Dell Optiplex 790 MT (“mini tower”) with a Core i5 CPU.

Decided I wanted something a bit quieter than the T3500, swapped parts into the Z200. Big problem I've run into is I have one ram slot that's suddenly causing an immediate ram fail on power on (5 beep\5 red light flash) restricting me to 4 gigs. Going to get 2x4 to throw in and call it good, I rarely use the thing anyways.

So, now my desktop is:
HP Z200 Tower
Core i7 870
2x 2 GB DDR3
Radeon R7-240 2 gig
Dell PERC 6/i
4x Seagate 15k.6 146 GB in RAID 5

Dell Precision T1500
2.93 GHz Core i7 870
8 GB DDR3
Two 500 GB HDDs in RAID 0 - I have backups to deal with failures
Radeon R7-240 until I get my old tower unpacked in which case it'll get an HD4850 (slightly better).

I didn't have high hopes for the PSU, since when I tested it before I bought it (checking for abnormal HDD noises) the PSU fan was full blast as soon as I powered it on.

Ok...Quad core prices are down to where I like them. Time to buy a new system. Unfortunately, what this means is that the the two VP6s, which have been serving me well for the last 7 years, will have to be retired.

I know its a sad thing to do, but space is getting tight in this apartment. Something has to give. Not to mention the electric bill.
