I found another boardview file for this, a link from this youtube video.

I don't know what format it's meant to be but It has a .cad extension and opens with OpenBoardView. It looks allot more useful than the Allego one.

Would there be any issues running this laptop with the blown chip removed just to test it out?Leave a comment:

Viewer 17.2 opens it but doesn't show anything useful. I haven't used these things before so I'm not sure if it's the brd file or lack of experience using the software. The Viewer is a bit erratic on windows when you try to zoom in but actually works better on Linux under Wine....

On the reverse side of the motherboard I spotted a burned chip, U19 on the schematic TPS65982DD, the PD controller for USB 1. I'm not sure why that causes the other USB ports to not work, maybe it's shorted and dragging the supply down? Looks like a tricky thing to solder....Leave a comment:

Is the LA number a revision number for this laptop? I have the schematic and It seems to be not exactly like this board although very similar. Where do I find the LA number for this laptop?
Also, what does "Redirect" mean for this post?Leave a comment:

Boardview for Dell XPS 13 9380
The only boardview that I can find for this is in Allegro format but the free viewer won't open it because it's an old format. It says it needs to be converted with DB doctor, a program that I don't have and doesn't seem to come with the free viewer. It would be useful to have something that can be opened with OpenBoardView because I use linux most of the time.... -
I discovered that USB 1 negotiates 5V, USB 2 is close to zero and USB 3 20V but it doesn't seem to be enough to charge the battery. So it looks like there might be a short on USB 2 that's affecting everything else. Sure enough I measured 28 ohms between VCC and ground while the other two are over 1 meg ohm.Leave a comment:

Bricked Dell XPS 13 9380
I left this laptop plugged in while windows was doing an update. When I returned to it about an hour later it was switched off. I pressed the power button and it started for a few seconds then powered off. It's been dead since. The battery has no voltage, as if the charging circuit stopped working and it discharged until it shut down. It wont charge or start up without the battery connected and the charger plugged in. I don't have a USB tester but I have a USB C breakout board so I can test the charging voltage. It's charging at only 5 V with two different USB C chargers. The original Dell charger...Last edited by JBonzo; 10-19-2025, 06:21 PM.
