Thanks for the info, that’s really helpful. Is there anywhere you’d recommend where I could learn more about understanding and analysing BIOS dump files? I’d like to get to the point where I can read the dump myself and work out what’s wrong, rather than always having to rely on someone else....Leave a comment:

14.5v batt.. batt pin 17v? proper high mate. changed mosfets twice.. same rubbish. dual charging mosfet keeps shorting out. plug charger in, yank it out, first 3 gates stay stuck open. batt juice leaking back to port. proper messed up.
got the schematic mate.. close enough to the board but the charging ic is a different chip. pretty much everything else is identical though.

already swapped that dual diode out for a new one and got the exact same result. It feels like the VIN rail and the battery side track are physically bridged inside the PCB layers, or is that just how it's supposed to be on this specific design?...Leave a comment:

Cheers for the reply mon2. Just checked the dual diode pins exactly as you said.
With just the battery connected and no charger, it behaves normally. The battery voltage only shows up on one leg, and the adapter side anode stays clean at 0V.
But when I plug the charger in with NO battery, the 19V charger voltage shows up on all pins of that dual diode, including the battery input side pin. I traced it out and the main VIN rail seems to have direct continuity to the battery input side of that dual diode. Maybe that is just normal for this specific design when the battery is missing?...Leave a comment:

Cheers for the advice mate. I will definitely do those resistance tests now.
Just wanted to ask though how does a leaking mosfet tie into having 24v on the gates even after the charger is completely unplugged. Is the leak actually causing the charging IC to keep that 24v pumped on the gates or is the IC just losing its mind.
Also one weird detail I noticed. If I just plug the battery in on its own for the first time the voltage does not leak back to the DC jack. But the absolute second I plug the charger in and then pull it out that is when the battery voltage starts bleeding back...Leave a comment:

Hi guys,
same laptop again
Really need some help with this laptop, I'm absolutely stumped. The dual charging MOSFET is getting scorching hot and then just straight up shorting out.
The voltage on the battery rail sits at a normal 14V, but as soon as I plug the battery in, the voltage jumps to 16V and starts skyrocketing rapidly. To make things even weirder, the moment I unplug the charger, the battery voltage bleeds all the way back to the DC jack.
Also, the first 3 input MOSFETs have 24V sitting on their gates, which seems proper bizarre to me. I’ve already swapped out...Leave a comment:

have HP Elitebook 850-G8 , i removed the bios password long time ago ( using clear an erea in ec file) , the customer came back with dead motherboard, when i remove both batteries (cmos and main one no charger) and connect them again it works but with endpoint porblem and every time i have remove the batteries to switch it on , i still have the original , flashed them back but still the same poblem , tried several files from badcaps but stil the same, is there an other chip i hve check on?
