Re: ECS mcp61pm-hm 6-bad 1800uf 63 Tk caps
I got fedup with mine sitting in the corner and randomly decided to order some polymers. I replaced every one of the 1800uf Tk's with (they are LG and either 820 or 1000uf) but I've not tested stability yet, I probably will sometime this week though and I'll let ya'll know.

Re: EVGA 7600GT 256mb PCIe Poly Mod
I must add I've not seen the best of Evga. I've 4 bad ones I intend to recap, but that's not necessarily to say the company is bad, but rather used cheap parts in these cases. We all see that the FZ series is as reliable dampened balled up tissue as caps. I'm anxious to get some sets of the polymer from Topcat and finally recap the ones I have. I'm going to run 2 7300gt's in sli on a socket 754 athy 3400 for kicks.
Not to steer from the topic but to add, my preference in video has been XFX for some time now.

Re: Testing VRMs
I suggest sir as a last ditch effort before retiring it completely if it's not too late, baking the board. I have the problem as a common issue with geforce 6100/6150 chipsets. It's the closest I can get easily to a 'bga reflow' since I don't have a heat gun or a torch or patience. I know it's not a 'convenitonal' method, but for a board you've attempted everything else on and are set on pitching it, it can't hurt.
My method, strip the board of any heatsinks and battery and cmos chips if possible, remove all thermal paste and thermal pads, preheat...Last edited by Zero Hour; 02-09-2010, 02:34 PM.

Re: ECS GeForce6100SM-M V:1.0
Well I decided to test the board last night and see if it would even power on (got it free in someone's donations of junk) And it did. 3 bulging of these OST, so i set out to test the caps along the cpu (I presume this is what you refer to as the 'vrm out' and those large caps closer to the I/O shield are the 16v you refer to as the 'vrm in'?) They test 1.3 roughly all along the vrm. I swipe some 2.5v 820uf polymers off a 775 board that's no good (lightning) and put them on the ECS board at work this morning. it's been running like a champ, vcore stable...

Re: ECS GeForce6100SM-M V:1.0
I started thinking about it and thought what about polymer? Hell why not just go all out? The ones for sale here seem more than reasonably priced. The thing is I don't know how to correctly check the voltages at a cap. I've got the volt meter and am bringing a cpu to work tomorrow to try but I don't think i'm doing it correctly. Can anyone shine some light on the job? And second I've never been clear on using polymers to replace lytics. I know you can use a lesser capacitance with no problem but how do you know where to draw the line? I mean you need...

Re: ECS GeForce6100SM-M V:1.0
So it's safe to assume in this case that the esr and ripple are are equal or better on both the rubycon and samxon even though the dimensions are slightly different?
And being my friend likes to overclock, it would be ideal to go with the better quality rubycon then ey?

Re: ECS GeForce6100SM-M V:1.0
Well first, don't mistake my questioning to be related to quality. I presume Topcat would not sell 'crap' as he seems to have a passion for these things as most of us do, and judging by the size and participation regularly in this community, that sounds like a safe assumption. Secondly, when I questioned as to wether or not they would be sufficient, I was referring to specs. I'm aware that it's best to replace all, and not just a few. I mentioned at the end of the post that my measurements were 10x25, so I would assume the samxon would easily fit....

ECS GeForce6100SM-M V:1.0
I have on this "bleh" board some OST 6.3v 1800uf RLZ. I like others I believe have not been able to find a datasheet which for someone so indecisive and not very good at choosing caps further overwhelming. Hoping to successfully recap this board and send to a friend as a nice upgrade for him.
I was eyeing these but I really have no idea which direction to go or if these would be sufficient. https://www.badcaps.net/store/product_info.php?cPath=2&products_id=63
I was reading over this for tips related to these failed caps but like I mention,...

Re: evga fz74 1500uf 6.3
Ok and that lower number IS less resistance right? I should remember this I guess from my younger years of playing with stereos but wanted to be sure

Re: evga fz74 1500uf 6.3
I was using my cell cause i can bluetooth straight to the computer rather than borrow the gf's 10mp and have to remove the memory card and all that madness. I couldn't seem to get better pic results either >.<
Yes there are 10 caps, and they are all FZ. the smaller caps are FZ74 as well but 470uf 16v.
And btw, I don't mean to sound so clueless :/ but the loser number of the ESR on the polymer, indicates lower ESR? Or is it the other way? Asking because of the ohms symbol. The higher ripple is not important?Last edited by Zero Hour; 12-14-2009, 07:19 PM.

Re: evga fz74 1500uf 6.3
Lol funny i just saw your Avatar on an advertisement Toasty
ok so in a nutshel it's a safebet then overall? just stick with that rating and such? I honestly don't know the ESR of the old ones and will try finding a data sheet but isn't the ESR typically lower with Polymers or am I wrong?
oh and board is an evga 7600gt256mbddr3 (I THINK, had to call gf and ask her to find it)
Hmm. fail. now that i think about it that's way to vague >.< She didn't give me any other chracters. This looks identical...Last edited by Zero Hour; 12-14-2009, 02:01 PM.

Re: evga fz74 1500uf 6.3
yeah I literally have 3 video cards I've aquired with bad FZ. I seem to have the same abundant findings with KZG caps on motherboards as well. So you're saying I should do roughly 560-820 of the polymer version rather than the 1500? I think that replacement I'm looking at is a polymer if i'm not mistaken.

evga fz74 1500uf 6.3
I've been looking off and on but I always seem to find the info I find overwhelming or can't seem to comprehend it correctly. Basically what I found in searches on the forum and google referenced some Panasonic caps that were 10x20, but I wanted to be able to maintain the low profile caps to support clearance for the next slot. What I measured if correct, was 10mm width x 11.5-12mm height? Not positive it's exact on the dot. I found APSC6R3ELL152MJB5S to appear identical in size and basic specs, and granted they're a bit pricey, I feel that ordering a few of them will allow me to fix 3 cards I...

Re: 915gv-m3 v1.0 various caps, cannot find?
Ok so by "DMM" you mean digital multi-meter am I right? As in a digital read out volt meter? I think i have one laying around or i can get a cheapo for $5 somewhere like harbor frieght.
I'm curious why you mention 2.5v? Is that just an option if I'm unable to find a 4v at 680 or would the 2.5 be any better?
Now in order to check if they're in parallel I need to be testing ohms and connected to one terminal of one of the 560s and then one of the 680 correct? I'll use whatever if it works,...

Re: 915gv-m3 v1.0 various caps, cannot find?
I ordered another motherboard for a setup i'm trying to build for games. Though outdated, a DFI Lanparty Venus is an epic item
Anyways in the mean time and after life has settled a bit I wanted to get back to fixing what i have laying around, so my reason for bumping this thread --
I'm trying to get a better understanding of these various caps of course. The purple caps i found replacements for but I don't believe they need it. So the 4 at the bottom of the aluminum cap indicates voltage? And the...Last edited by Zero Hour; 11-01-2009, 09:58 AM.

Re: k8ngm2/ms-7207 v1.0 - Wrong caps?
The two acers did need a recap yes, but after the recap i still had no video or lights. After baking, the machines operated with no problems at all to this date (few months so far) One runs 24/7 with Windows 7 as my router/ICS machine....

Re: k8ngm2/ms-7207 v1.0 - Wrong caps?
Like i say, desperate last measures
I guess I need to learn how to test the capacitors then.
As far as the baking, it's at 384F for 5 mins typically..
