Hey everyone!!! My name is Trevor. I Just recently stumbled onto this forum while trying to troubleshoot a tv. I like dabbling in electronics and have fixed a few household appliances (who doesnt like saving money...) but have no formal training. Hope to learn a lot from everyone and maybe someday be of help to this site.

                A little about me?!?

HMMM I'll give a little info... I've been in the electronics field since 1991, with experience ranging from TV/VCR repair all the way to industrial electronics for a very large and well known manufacturer. I started in computers in 1994, just for a change and something I thought would be more challenging.... First of all, in the computer field, I AM NOT a number cruncher (programmer) YUK!!!!! I'm a hardware/network guy... I can install any OS, repair and make it work, but sitting and typing code is more boring than watching flies mate!! So I stick to hardware!! I get the 'thrill' from coming up with cures for problems, creative and USEFUL mods (this DOES NOT include neon lights and corny batman windows in my cases)...

Before the VP6 was around, Abit's poster child was the BP6, dual celeron board... Being one of the pioneers to run dual Coppermines in my BP6 was quite a thrill... Then came the VP6, and the dreaded crap cap problem... Thus was born PROJECT:VP6, which is over a year old... It can be viewed at www.kabalsrealm.com/systems/projects/vp6/. That single article ultimately led to badcaps.net and this forum... I was shocked at the publicity it drew...

                A little inside info?!?
Well, age?! I'll say late 20's and that's close enough... I enjoy dealing with the computers, all of this is just a hobby these days, so if it did flop, it's no loss... I'm also a car nut... (300ZX!!!)... I also enjoy flying immencely, although, no I don't own an airplane... YET!!! Maybe if I sell off all this computer junk, I could afford one... HEH I own 3 domain names, and host sites for a few friends on this array... Of course they pay me nothing... HMMM Ohh well... Money isn't all... That's about all I think needs to be revealed... If there's something you really need to know about me, ask... The answer all depends on the question you asked...

                Anyhow,
Peta, and everyone else that has joined, Welcome to the forums!! Bring some friends with ya!!

Just joined and hope to find some answers to help me fix my TV. I enjoy working on electronic projects, and find it rewarding to fix something that someone thinks is beyond repair.

I fixed an old CRT television 12 years ago, by researching the internet and learning what some common problems are with a certain brand and model. Cold solder joints, bad capacitors seem to be a few common problems.

It seems like electronics today are being manufactured to be disposable, which means the manufacturer will have ongoing strong sales as a product breaks and gets thrown away rather than fixed.

Tech people? Socializing?? With EACH OTHER???

End times, my friends. End times.

So, hello from the woods! Yeah, I'm out in the woods fixing motherboards. OK, sometimes fixing motherboards. They're not all fixable, and the hardest part is figuring out which boards to give up on.

I have one right here that has what I'm pretty sure is a piece of spaghetti, a dab of marinara, and even a splash of wine, all embedded in the ICH9 heat spreader fins. The best part: it doesn't look like the case has ever been opened. The lid screws are immaculate. How does someone get spaghetti inside a PC case w/o removing the cover?

                        Anyway, Hi!

Hello, This is Sat. New here and looking for help in fixing my 4 year old expat 50" LG TV that I moved from UK to India 3 years back. I am a complete novice but am courageous enough so long as I am reasonably sure I will be able to stay safe and not make things worse.

Hey all, nice little forum I came across when I was looking for info on a capacitor of all things. Thought I'd join after looking about for a minute. Been building and fixing computers since 95' more amateur than anything but I've built me nice setup. Always a blast putting something together and it works to boot.

Hi - I'm a noob at PC repair but did land mobile radios for many years in the 1980s. I'm fixing iMacs which seem to be at that time in the lifecycle where their PS Capacitors are drying up.

Well, just in case anyone reads these :P Hi!

I'm Lance, from London England (in truth chaps, the *only* London!!).

I'm old enough to know better - been playing in electronics since valves.

I'm in to software development, but more as a Scrum Master now than a code hacker (but old habits die hard).

Came here looking for bios for an old bricked laptop, but thanks to a recently developed interest in model railways, been dusting down the old soldering skills

                                        Salut,
