I too am a new member, not a professional tech more of a hobbyist, so if I ask something stupid or too obvious please forgive me!

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

I'm new this forum, not a professional tech, but a TV news photographer, and storm chaser.
I've been picking up broken LCD and LED tvs from thrift stores and repairing them as a hobby!

                Hi,

I am from Alsace in France and live there since almost 30 years. I studied chemistry, which has some relationship with electronics indeed. My new and recent hobby is to go deeper in electronics stuff in order to repair and create some new stuff ! I like to understand things and know how they work.

My most recent work is to repair some switching power supply and I also bought some used oscilloscope (Metrix Ox803B) which seems out of calibration.

Nice forum with lots of information, happy to be on board ! and give some contribution.

                Guillaume

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread "clean" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said "w00t.. they have a forum"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..
Sounds great you are a real asset to the community we all look forward to cooperating and working together and hopefully sharing a few brews at the local pup. Many thanks for your service and dedication to this community.

                              Ullo.

                              New to this forum...
I have some experience in electronics and repair work.
I'm currently working on a Panasonic TX-P50V10 plasma TV with the infamous 7... you know... which brought me here :-)
(will post my results as they crop up).

                              Cheers!

PS.: if anybody in this forum has tips on SC-board related repair, I'm all ears :-)
(I'll get into the specifics in my comments on the threads that are relevant to the subject)

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi my name is Scott and I just joined because I have an LG plasma TV that just died and was searching for help on how to fix it and came across these forums which seem like they could be useful. I know a little bit about TV repair, and have a cheapy multi-meter and have been able to eliminate the power supply board as the cause for my dead plasma, but I was unable to find something obvious on the other boards in the TV, no puffed caps or smoke stains or holes in ICs or transistors, etc. So I will try and start a new thread with more info about my TV issues after this intro post is accepted.
