Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi My name is Rick and I'm from San Antonio, TX. Much of the electronics work I do is voluntary for family's or children who do not have the money or capabilities to work on their electronic equipment (mainly computers and gaming). My goals are to gain knowledge from others who have similar experience and to share my experience to those in need. I am looking forward to using BADCAPS forum.

      Hi to all !!

My name is Leonardo, i'm from Costa Rica, i start with computer in '95 or so, nothing like DOS, C64, in my memories, but in all the reading of history of computer, that systems have great impact in today's OS.

i grew up with the windows(and all the problems that they have) fixing, learning, and more recently know and explore the unix and linux-like systems and dive into programming in C, C++ and a little bit of the world-wide web languages.

Now days i'm trying to teach my self some basic electronics, I have some bad graphic cards in my room, and I hope to learn something new and perhaps fix them..

I don't practice too much my english, for that, excuse me for some of my writing problems..

Hopefully i can find some great stuff with all the members.

      See you around...

Hello. Just joined to try to get some information on replacement capacitors. Been far too long since I've had any real interaction with electrical components.

Hello all. Quick about me: I was born in the latter half of the 80's, got my first computer when Windows 95 came out, got into gaming, have always been kind of a nerd, also into my car (And volvos in general). I'm a diy'er, would rather fix things then go out and buy them new, I can read and follow directions and I'm pretty good at finding info on the internet. I'm kind of a forum troll (not that I troll forums, I just read a lot of forums without posting much). That being said I joined this site hoping to learn a lot and maybe gain some new skills in repairs. Not sure exactly what I can contribute, pictures, into, laughs?? I have a Volvo s70 with a turbo, an LG 42pt350, a ps3 and a asus gaming laptop. I'm comfortable taking things apart and putting them back together.

                  Hello to all,

I am relatively new to this stuff, but this forum looks great, and I've already found information that I've been able to put to good use.

                      Hello,
My name is Mark, and I know nothing about electronics. I am a bit of a horder and do not like to throw stuff away. I have joined this site to try a figure out how to fix a TV that stopped working for us a year ago. The tv is still in our living room and my wife has suggested that I let it go, and recycle it, but I just can't do it. I have looked through some of the site and I have a headache now, I am over my head here. I have managed to find the information on my tv on this site, remove what I believe to be the "bad caps", and now, I have no idea what size or series these caps are. I have logged into the Badcaps store and looked a bit, and now my headache is worse. Would someone be willing to direct me to the next forum to post in for information on what the series of a cap means?
Thank You, for your assistance, ahead of time.
ps. I believe that if you are not out of your comfort zone, well, then you are not living or growing as a person.

                        Greetings,

This site is surely a great resource - not only for identifying problem components, but also obtaining suitable replacements. Thanks!

                          Hi all,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm from Germany, but I understand some English. I'm afraid I can't contribute that much to the technical discussion and will rather be asking (and browsing for solutions), but I hope that I'm welcome nonetheless.

                          Sincerely,
                          Fuzzy

Hey guys, joining up from Iowa.

Found your site when troubleshooting a monitor for a friend.

My background, I have a BSEE and have run the tech department at a riverboat casino for about 11 years. We do component level repair daily on pretty much everything we can get our hands on.

Hoping I can jump in and help on some things, and get some advice on others.

                            See you around,
                            Dave

And if you wouldn't mind to keep this thread \"clean\" let's try to keep the the chitchat (i.e. even the welcome to the board replies) to a minimum or this thread may get to 100 pages fast

So I'll start things off :

My name is petabyte and I'm a forum junkie. I've been off the wagon for a number of years and countless times I've tried to stop but it's useless.. I need to feed my learning addiction.. :!:

Now just a bit about me.. I'm a fairly secretive guy in terms of privacy on the net.. especially when the things you write are visable to anyone with a net connection. But I love to share the info and knowledge I have, so that's why I'm here, to share and learn.

my formal education is that of an electronic engineer and I held a field service position with a firm for over 20 years.. that job is gone now along with company car and laptop <cry> oh well..
So needless to say (but i will) I've always tinkered with things.. yes, a hacker.. (too bad that term lost it's orignal meaning) a hardware hacker mostly.. hacking fixes in whatever I find that breaks.. (except for cars, I have friends for that) I got started a little late into the computers, my first box was an ibm pc-xt with a whopping 10meg HD,blazing fast 4.66mhz 8086 processor, 640k mem running dos 3.3.. man was I cool back then.. nevermind..

so these days, I'm forced to be a software guy as well.. as I fix pc's for friends and that usually means cleaning virus/trojan/adware and reinstalling OS's.. yeah hardware breaks but not that often  so as a result, I keep up on my software knowledge by visting a few security forums.. and trolling around a few hardware forums as well.

now I found this place from a thread at motherboards.org/forums
where I've been hanging out lately.. it's a nice friendly place with some pretty smart people.. mostly, of course, it's about mobo's.. So this person mentioned badcaps.net and I recalled reading articles a year or so ago about the faulty caps and was curious as to what you guys were up to.. and I said \"w00t.. they have a forum\"..

and so now.. you're stuck with me :P

so what's your story ? come on.. give it up..

I fix a lot of strange stuff and find the internet forums to be a great resource. I've had some success with LCD monitors (primarily bad caps) and would like to join the community to discuss a slightly different problem that I have run into.
