Hello everyone,
I'm a 24 year old student in Switzerland who loves repairing things. Lately the repairs I've been taking on are getting more and more complex and I think I am going to need some help from more experienced people than I. I have often relied on badcaps posts for my problems and I think now is the time to join the forum, which I'm excited to do.
Thank you all and have nice lives.Comment

Hi everyone! My name is mrfree2ita and electronics is one of my biggest hobbies. I love tinkering with gadgets and troubleshooting them. There's a real thrill in taking a broken device and bringing it back to life. It's not just about saving money, but also reducing e-waste. I'm always excited to learn new things.Comment

Hi all, I hope everyone is well! 😉 I've not been on for a while, but I'm 46 years young and have been fixing electronics most of my life, as it just comes naturally to me! 😁 I've started doing some repairs in my spare time again, and I'm looking to refresh my knowledge of bios and flashing etc. I will also share any knowledge i have, that others need too, obviously! 😉 When I used to do this before, there was only one bios chip on mobo's, and that was it, but now there are multiple chips on the boards, and I've no idea why, or what the difference between them is?? 😵 so if anyone could give me a brief refresher, I'd really appreciate it! 🙏 🥹
Anyway, I have a gaming laptop GK5CN6Z, PC Specialist, which wont power on, light comes on then back off again! Ive done all the normal checks, reset bios, reseated ram, tried different ram, checked board under microscope for burnt/discoloured components etc, I've had multimeter on it and it seems all power rails are present and as yet I've found no shorts? I've disconnected everything from the mobo, including the power button board, leaving just the fans plugged in, then powered it up by shorting the pins on power board connecter, same thing happened, so I'm a bit stumped tbh, I know it could be a cpu, or gpu issue, as its quite common in gaming laptops, but as I said, I can't find any shorts. I've also tried 3 different power supplies, so it's not that either! I'm thinking ots either Chipstead, super IO, or bios, so I'm gonna do the easiest first and flash the bios, and cross my fingers, toes and bum cheeks! 😁 anyway, as you can see in the pics, there is 2 potential bios chips on this board, which I'm guessing both probably are, but I've no idea about these new bios setups, as stated above, so any help would really be appreciated guts, as I'm really stumped now!
Thanks in advance guys, as you've always been a massive help in the past! 😉👍🤟Comment
