Hello!
I have an old Sony Bravia KDL46EX401 that has worked perfect since 2011, but four days ago malfunctioned.
Symptom is garbage graphics and artifacts, like a computer GPU gone bad. This gets worse and the whole units just hangs.
After dissasembly and troubleshooting I found no physical or electrical faults, as a last resort I took a CPU cooler and pressed it against the CPU on the mainboard and voila it worked to boot up and keep the TV alive.
The CPU on the mainboard has no cooler by default, but it does get very hot.
I now added a small flange cooler I took from an old southbridge on a computer mobo, but even this gets hotter then I feel is good for the processor.
Any ideas why old age could be causing this sudden heat issue on this unit?
Even better if you know any remedies for this issue?
